“Good midrange hotel”
I travel several times a year to Hong Kong, and have stayed in many different hotels. I booked the Crowne Plaza based on its high rating with other Expedia travelers. My quick view is that it's a good though not great. I'd rate it about a 4.0 out of 5.
On the plus side, my room was very nice, good bed, good TV, nice bathroom, good quality towels, quiet- no problems whatsoever. The furniture was nothing at all fancy, the carpet looked like they got a really good buy as opposed to really good style, and the chairs didn't match.
The negatives are outside the room. I arrived with my business partner at 3PM on a Saturday afternoon, and neither of our rooms was ready. Judging from the large group of guests in the hotel lobby, I would say we were not the only folks to have to wait.
The fitness center is decent, not large, but most midrange hotels in Hong Kong don't have really good fitness centers.
Internet is an extra charge. It wasn't working Saturday afternoon, but speed was just fine when it finally came on.
I'd rate decor outside the rooms a rating of 3 out of 5. The lobby is small, and its furniture is cheap. The elevators were playing old Swing era elevator music that gave the hotel a 1960s Howard Johnson's kind of vibe. Overall, it seems that the Crowne Plaza people refurbed an older basic hotel, and skimped on the public area changes.
Overall, 4/5 seems about right. The room was very good while the rest of the hotel was less impressive.
Area recommendations
The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from Causeway Bay shopping and the MTR. It's on a busy street, but once you're across the street everything is very convenient.
