Brilliant hotel with friendly & helpful staff.

Posted 16-Feb-2015
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: The hotel itself is set in nice surrounding grounds, a short drive will take you to Bangor.
If you want a nice relaxing break this is the place to go. We came away feeling full of energy & very relaxed.

Unusual Hotel

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: Umm. It's got some original features that are lovely but it's not a delight to behold. Just seemed generally cold or too hot. Didn't visit the Spa bit
Cons: A degree of control over the room temperature? The quilts are way too hot for normal temperatures.
Location: There is a pub in the grounds selling OK food. Helens Bay is lovely for a walk.
Turned up in person to an empty hotel. They offered us a very expensive rate so we went to the car and booked with Expedia and saved £30 with an upgraded room. No breakfast though. The room was boiling when we went in so we turned down the radiator but it just got hotter and hotter. We informed reception before we went out for a lovely walk in Helens Bay. When we got back they had just opened the windows! As the hotel is by a busy road the noise was intolerable. We told them again and got moved to a nearby suite. This was freezing. However the quilts on the beds are about 50 tog so I spent the night battling with it sweating or shivering. Not sure I would want to stay here again.

Overnight stay with let down morning.

Posted 18-Nov-2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel was traditional and very nice indeed. We stayed in the crozier suite which was a good size and had a nice view. Our experience was good apart from 2 occasions on the morning after our stay. I tried to order a couple of smoothies from the juice bar in the spa to find that there was a member of staff behind the counter who didn't speak English as her first language and couldn't understand what I was after so she told me to hold on as She went to the spa reception and returned to tell me that someone would be with me shortly she then went off to do something else more important I presume. We waited at least 10 minutes and no one turned up which was disappointing. Cutting our losses We then went back to our room and got sorted before heading to the main reception to check out. I found the female that dealt with my request to be very slow as I stood there whilst she shuffled about with paperwork and her computer before being told after a few minutes "that's you". I was not asked about our stay at all as I would have mentioned the issue in relation to the juice bar nor did I feel welcomed by her attitude. My girlfriend and I had got engaged in the hotel the night before and the 2 occasions of poor service certainly put a dampener on our mood as we were leaving. The building is beautiful but those 2 experiences did not meet the levels of service expected from a 5 star hotel and as a result I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to rebook a stay any time soon.

Food was a disapointment

Hotel was beautiful and staff were so polite and helpful. Its a pity that the food in the crozier bar was such a let down. Everything else was perfect.

Not a very 5 star stay

+ Beautiful location and located close to the cultra train station. Had a lovely meal at cultra inn. - The noisy neighbours across the hall having us awake at 3am felt more like a travel lodge than a 5 star resort. Cobwebs above the bed. Nothing exciting with the health facilities either.
