A suburban district on the eastern bank of the Alster, Hohenfelde features the attractive Kuhmühlenteich canal, with the neo-gothic red brick church of St Gertrude, and the enormous Alsterschwimmhalle pool. Much of the district was destroyed in the war but the historic Apotheke on Kuhmühle survived and many other art nouveau and gothic buildings have been restored.
