“ok hotel, great location”

staff at check-in was a little cold, but bell service was quick. non-smoking room smelled of smoke - maybe from a previous guest. when air was turned on, smell of cigarettes blew through the vents, though the entire floor is "non-smoking." breakfast buffet was good, selection a little slimmer than others. had pho and egg/omelette station. room was clean and comfortable, but a little loud since it was located on the street-side. seconds walk to ben thanh market.

“Great Location”

Stayed at the Liberty Central on a 2 day stop-over on our way to Angkor and we wanted accommodation of reasonable quality and conveniently located to some of the attractions of HCMC. This hotel met these requirements and was better than expected. The Staff were great, room very well appointed, we booked a Central View and were offered a Club floor upgrade for a reasonable charge which we used and was excellent value. The hotel’s location was just ideal, close to the Ben Thanh Market, plenty of good restaurants close by. We would have stayed again on our way back but it was booked out.

District 1 it has character,good quality restaurants markets, history, close to the river, all within walking distance.

“Very Pleasand Stay”

It is in good location and a very nice hotel which is nearby many attractions. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They gave us very good advices of where to go, eat and what to be careful of. We enjoyed our stay in this hotel.

“Very Good Location”

Overall I was impressed. The hotel is in a very good location, its new and modern, very clean, and convenient. The rooms are also nice with some nice views. The breakfast was also good. Hearing the other rooms doors closing and opening is true, and thats beacsue the rooms are designed without entrance corridors, however i dont see it a big deal.

“liberty”

first time we stayed we got a deluxe room and were in a corner room with a great view. second time we got a room in the middle of the hallway and it was extremely loud with people coming and going all night. Breakfast was ok, not overly fresh though. fantastic location, just around the corner from the markets and some great places to eat!

“Central location, great value for money”

Stayed at the hotel 3 times during a 3 week period. Upgraded on one occasion. Great location in the central area. Staff were most helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good.

“Clean, good food, good location”

My wife and I were very satisfied with this hotel. The rooms were very clean and quiet, the breakfast buffet was very satisfactory, and the overall service was very good. We also liked the fact that it had 24-hour room service and a small bistro cafe that was open until pretty late for a quick drink or bite to eat. The front desk seemed a bit expressionless, but not a big deal. The location itself was very good, located right in the middle of District 1, within walking distance of just about all the main attractions. It was also very close to Ben Thanh Market, which can be a plus if you're into that sort of thing, but it also meant that the immediate neighborhood wasn't the nicest. It was also odd that there was no convenience store around the hotel, but I assume that's because the market was so close. Overall, a very good value with all the amenities you could expect for a mid-priced hotel.

Area recommendations

The area around the Reunification Palace has a few nice restaurants. Really enjoyed Au Parc, a western/Mediterranean cafe. The area around the Opera House is the most upscale. Lots of luxury shops and the nicest hotels in the city.

“Home from home”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Liberty Central Hotel - all of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent and always hot, which is not common in a buffet breakfast. Coffee was good and plentiful. The room could have been bigger but the bed was very comfortable. Only down side was the size of the pool, but most times we were the only ones up on the roof using it. Markets are just a few steps away from the hotel. One word of warning to both the Hotel Management and future Guests - there is no handrail on the concrete steps leading to and from the pool and there is also a trip hazard leading onto the stairs from the pool area. We felt it was a very dangerous hazard and could potentially cause someone a nasty accident.

Such a great hotel....but had a bad massage by an unqualified staff member causing pain, hotel sympathetic but still made us pay ever though massage was not completed otherwise of the highest standard

“Fabulous”

Liberty Central Hotel in District 1 was absolutely the best.We stayed five nights incl buffet breakfast (a must) was great. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The Concierge organised a Sim card and top ups for our mobile phones and we went on a CuChi tunnel tour organised by the hotel with an english speaking guide, the whole experience was amazing. We found everything was within walking distance from the Hotel and if not the taxis were very cheap. There was a great French Pastry Cafe across the road and opposite the markets with cakes to die for. Markets were good but the highlight of our trip was the War Remnants Museum, This place was truly amazing and very well presented. All in all we had a fabulous trip, felt very safe (though crossing the road was a challenge) the Vietnamese people were so friendly and happy even if English language is limited we seemed to get through that barrier. If I was to go back to Saigon I would definately stay at Liberty Cantral Hotel.

Area recommendations

CuChi Tunnel tour was such an experience. We went through part of a tunnel though I am 164cm and found it quite hard unless I was on my hands and knees. The history that went with the Tunnels was very informative and certainly opened my eyes to parts of the Vietnam War which I never knew. The War Remnats Museum was the highlight. It was well presented and the photographs were so strong and have certainly left a lasting impression. We visited the markets and found some great little gems at bargin prices(gorgeous tea set). We only stayed in Saigon and benefited greatly from the experience. Next time it will be Hanoi.

When to go

Our trip was from 7-11 June 2011. Apperently this was the beginning of the wet season though we only experiensed a light shower which lasted 15 min one afternoon. The temp was approx 25-33degrees daily and inside the markets it had to be 38-40degrees, so have a bottle of water with you at all times cost 15,000 dong per bottle.

Getting there

We flew Air Asia which only departs from Melbourne, Perth and Coolangatta. We went ex Coolangatta. You have to fly via KL, Malaysia but they are a great airline and I have flown them before no problems and cheap.You can purchase hot meals on the aircraft onyly $3.00 AUD. Recomend you take a pair of socks for your feet as it is a bit coldalso I have a light rug (from another airline) that i have to put around me in flight ( pashmina would suffice) Left OOL 08.40 and arrived KL 15.30 Then connected Air Asia to Saigon 17.30 (flight 2 hours) arrived Saigon 20.30 . Taxi to Liberty Central Hotel 180,000 dong bought taxi ticket at booth in airport ride took 20-30min.

What to pack

Very hot 33degrees hotel aircon extremely pleasant. You only need shorts sleeveless tops and maybe some T-shirts to cover shoulders inside building with aircon. If you are going to the CuChi Tunnels I took runners though my friend wore thongs,I felt comfortable in covered footwear. I only wore flat footwear on the aircraft, the rest of the time I wore thongs. One pair of long pants and a good top if you want to dine at one of the larger hotel eg Sheraton have a Seafood buffet dinner. I never took a handbad I only used a small travel satchel bag that I could wear across one shoulder and hold onto it at the front. We were warned at the hotel to keep a hold of our bags at all times thoughwe never experienced any problems just be aware.
