“Good hotel, particularly at the price!”

We stayed at this hotel for a week in November 2011 and were very pleased with it. The nightly rate was very reasonable and the quality and service compared well with places that charged a lot more. It has a fair buffet breakfast, working air conditioning and some of the most helpful and pleasant door staff I have ever encountered. It is in the middle of the Pham Ngu Lao/ De Tham area which is a magnet for foreign travellers and has a lot of restaurants, travel agencies and so on, although many of the city sights are a (short and cheap) taxi ride away. Recommended.

Area recommendations
The two best areas for tourists to stay are the heart of the city (around the Opera House), which has a lot of up-market hotels, and the more budget foreign-traveller area around Pham Ngu Lao.

“Don't skimp and book the cheaper rooms!”

Upon arrival and being taken to our room I was horrified at the size of the delux room and the bathroom that was the size of a phone box......however after making a complaint and paying to upgrade I was suitable satisified. Overall the staff were terrific even to the point of helping us across the busy road everyday. On the day we were leaving I needed a lock for my suitcase, I asked the bellboy where I could get one, he simply said leave it with me I'll get one for you. Three minutes later he handed me a lock and keys. Breakfast buffet was very good with a wide selection of food. Location was really good and close to Ben Than Markets, tailors around the corner (which were much cheaper than the markets) and heaps of eateries / resturants with a great variety of food. Had a room with a view over the park across the road, this provided many hours of entertainment for us watching the locals exercise and play games. Definately would recommend that you stay here but go for the middle range of rooms.

Area recommendations
I recommend that if you are staying in Saigon look at District 1, it's close to the Benn Thann Markets, close to the Saigon River and many many good shops, tailors and resturants. I also found a couple of Dentists that look after international travellers, great prices, highly sterilised and very professional work but limited English. If choosing a tailor then check out the prices away from the immediate Benn Thann Markets as they are much cheaper and extremely good. The food was very cheap, my partner and I tried several resturants while there and it never cost and more than $20 AUS for a 3 course meal. (We didn't have any alcohol) If looking for some more upmarket shopping then I recommend you look around the shops near the Saigon River, lots of exclusive brand shops as well as local shops that you wont have to haggle in.
Getting around
Avoid the cyclos if you are not travelling with a strapping big male as they will rip you off. They take you to the Chinese markets and other places where they get a kick back and then half way home the will stop and renegotiate the fare. Taxis can be the same so stick with the big name cabs. We caught one cab to go to a place only 5 minutes away and while I was watching the meter it jumped by 60 VND every 30 seconds, the ride cost 180 VND but should have been around 50 VND. I didn't make a fuss as 180 VND equates to around $8 AUS. Watch the private motor bike riders and private cars offering to take you to all the sites as they usually end up costing twice what the Tour Companies charge. The Tour Company's charges are very reasonable and they always offer terrific commentary by locals who share local stories and insights. This is invaluable as far as how much you pay in dollars.

“Extreme quality within budget.”

Very clean, well presented. Friendly helpful staff with excellent service. centrally located to cathedral, post office, war museum, market. handy to locals restaurants and bars.

District 1, handy to everything you are looking for in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

“very satisfactory”

Hotel location is perfect. Rooms are very spacious and quite comfortable Internet is very speedy. Every where you can use internet. Breakfast is really good very good. We could not stay one more night because hotel was full.

“Great service in a very peaceful location.”

This hotel is centrally located in a quiet place close to the lake. Make sure to visit the lake early morning to watch the locals performing Tai Chi.

“Good hotel choice for location and price”

Hotel is middle of the range in a good location. You can walk a lot of places. Tour shops are close by. Ensure you obtain competitive quotes for tours as price varies even on a day trip by up to $5 per person

“Good location, great breakfast, dated but clean rooms”

The hotel is located right in the backpacker area. It is across from a park, which is great if you want to exercise or run. It also gives a nice glimpse into Saigon culture. Our room was spacious, clean, but a bit dated. The furniture and bed are all fine, but could use an update. The cabinet had a flimsy door. The bathroom was also clean. It wasn't too noisy at all, though you can hear some noise time to time. Nothing that would disrupt sleep. The breakfast was very good with ample selection in the buffet, with an egg station. Overall, happy with my stay, but hope they will consider renovating the furniture and making the place more modern.

Area recommendations
Ben Thanh market is a great indoor market filled with all kinds of fake clothing, souvenirs, and the likes. Sharpen your bargaining skills and don't take plastic bags. Apparently it is color coded to signify whether you are a hard bargainer.
