“Charming Hotel”

Continental Saigon is a beautiful old building, that has old world charm but has all the modern facilities you need. It is central to great shopping & a 10 minute walk from the huge market (Bien Theng Market) that sells everything. It is crazy but fun! I would recommend this hotel & would stay again.

“Can't wait to go back.”

Great hotel and great flight with Korean Air lines. I will go next year to vietnam and use the same airline and same hotel. The hotel was built in 1886 and it has a lot of history for us from France. If you have seen the movie " Indochine" you recognize a lot of places and roms in this hotel. Great history and I am glad this hotel is still there.

Area recommendations
First I will go to the market, then to the post office, the house of governor and get to the old french quarter. I will certainly also do again a cruise on the mekong.

“Best location, huge rooms!!!”

We were sorry we only had two nights at this lovely hotel, which is infused with such historical memories. The rooms were spacious and lovely, service was great and the location is hard to beat. District 1 is the only place to stay in and if you decide to have dinner at the restaurant in the Hotel, the view onto the eluminated Opera House is wonderful. Everything is within walking distance and a drink at the roof-top terrace at the nearby REX Hotel is a must.

When to go
Don't go after April, it will be hotter than hell! We were there around the end of April and it was still 30C at 9pm!!
Getting around
Taxis are cheap and a great way to get around if you don't want to walk to the sites. You have to be alert when you take a tuk-tuk.....the guys can be bandits. Make sure you agree on the price before you get going (when they offer you 3 an hour that could mean 3 dollars but also could mean 300.000.00 VD!!) plus they try and take you around to ALL the places and before you know it, 3 hours have evaporated and you could owe them $50.00 per person.
What to pack
Little or nothing because of the heat. And if you need anything, you will have the pleasure of buying it.
Dining
Anywhere is good. The food is fantastic.

“Old fashioned but comfortable”

This hotel was exactly as described by other expedia clients. The location was excellent, the service was good and although there were many wedding ceromonies at week-ends these did not cause any inconvenience as they were all over by 9pm. The drains and plumbing were a little smelly and noisy but the water was always hot and the shower had good pressure. The travel desk was not very helpful re booking trips especially for a traveller on their own, but the Tourist office is just around the corner and the "backpackers"area is only a 20 minute walk away. I had a good holiday/visit to see my daughter and felt safe going out on my own even in the evenings when she was working. This is not a hotel for young peopl, the bar never had anyone in it, but it was comfortable and relaxing after the heat and hassle of HCMC

“Pricey for what you get!”

Hotel location was great and staff were pleasant, rooms were huge but the decor, especially the bathrooms were in need of an update. The breakfast courtyard is pretty, there were a lot of food to select from at the breakfast buffet but the quality of food was a bit poor. There were a lot of wedding receptions going on at the hotel but it was fine as they normally start around 6pm and finish by 9pm. I would recommend this hotel only for the reasons that it is an historical hotel, if you are into nostalgia, this is a place to stay. If the hotel got a full renovation, it has the potention to be a glorious 5 star as it contained many old features. That's why it is a 3 star now but you pay 4/5 star prices!

“Go, but know what to expect”

Grand old Hotel in a prime location. Quality of rooms/bathrooms no longer up to 21st century expectations for a 4 star hotel. Service was curteous but inattentive and without initiative.Attendants needed to be told what was required of them. Quality of breakfast was so so. When certain food items were depleted, they were not replenished.

“Quaint Hotel in Great location but needs updating.”

Quaint old hotel but rooms need updating. Buffet Breakfast lacked selection. Bed was extremely hard. Housekeeping was very noisey in adjoining rooms.

Area recommendations
District 1. Safest area to wander. A lot of higher end shopping available. Large market area close by.

“Great Saigon Hotel!”

Loved this hotel.... Great location, French colonial character, large rooms, breakfast included with lots of variety of foods, friendly staff. We booked our tours through the hotel and had wonderful time with English speaking driver and guide. Since there were four of us we had a confortable air conditioned car all to ourselves. We also booked the dinner cruise on the Saigon River and thoroughly enjoyed it. We took our grandchildren - 9 & 7 and they loved the whole experience! No problems or complaits about our choice of hotels.....

“Great Location; Great Service”

We picked this hotel because of its central location and historic significance. Although it's not the most "modern" hotel on the block, it won us over with its charm.

“Excellent hotel. Courteous and helpful staff. Breakfast is not to be missed”

I have stayed at the Continental Hotel on several occasions over the past 10 years. It is excellent. Historic ambience, but with wonderfully spacious rooms fitted with modern conveniences. View of the Square and motos in traffic is priceless. Reasonably priced, and includes the best breakfast in SaiGon. Highly recommend. Can't wait to go back.

Traveller's tip
Ben Than market and Reunification Palace are good places to take kids. Otherwise, go out to the countryside and the Mekong Delta/Vihn Long for boat trips and seeing the floating villages.
