I liked the fact that I could walk in to the city centre from where I stayed . I was born in York and being back home was lovely, it was my first time visiting on my own so it was important to stay somewhere that I could reach the city and not have to worry about getting lost. i do not have any one there now so being able to get about easily was of benefit and the people are still so friendly and warm and very accomodating. It was a pleasure to be back in such a beautiful city. I had forgotten how much there is to see and such a lot of up dated attractions too and so easy to get to other parts of Yorkshire.
I chose this B&B because of it's quirky name and the fact that it appeared fairly near the place I was going for a job interview. Upon arrival, I received a friendly welcome and was shown to a superb bedroom. The evening meal in the pub downstairs was fantastic and just what I needed after my train journey. The following morning, the staff member couldn't do enough to assist me and even tried to help me out with directions to where I was going. This is a charming pub with friendly staff and I would definitely choose to stay there again.
P.S. I got the job ;)
Diane and Peter were wonderful hosts. Very helpful even took our bags up to our room. The room was very comfortable and very clean.
Diane served an excellent breakfast each morning and was very helpful in helping us plan our day. Her recommendations for where to have dinner were prefect. She book our taxi and served breakfast earlier because we had to catch a train.
It is a good ten minute walk to city centre and in a very nice neighbourhood.

The Ascot has won an award for its breakfasts and I am not surprised. We went for the traditional full English and were not disappointed. Well cooked, served hot and very filling. There was also a choice of cold meats, cereals and fruit, enough to set you up for the day.
The bedroom was spotlessly clean with good quality period furniture and the en-suite was ultra modern and also spotless.
The owners are really helpful and will advise as to the location of the sights and will book taxi for you if required. We had one to the National Railway Museum at a cost of £7
Parking was available at the rear of the property. This enabled us to leave our car for the duration of the stay as using a car in York and finding cheap public parking is difficult.
I have already recommended it to friends and will certainly stay there again when visiting York.
This is a great hotel. We were greeted by Elaine who took us to our room which was spotless, decorated beautifully & very comfortable. She told us where everything was & gave us a guest information pack. This included a map, time tables & information leaflets. She took the time to tell us how to get into York by bus & by foot. The information pack included a leaflet which had some useful discount vouchers in. We used the ones for the river cruise (highly recommend the evening river cruise, nice way to relax after a day walking around York) which saved us £4. Breakfast the following morning was lovely. A full English (cooked to order) with toast, selection of cereals & fruit juice & not just a cup of coffee, a large caffetiere of coffee (or pot of tea if you prefer) which made me very happy. Would definately return to this hotel
While the room wasn't overly big, it was clean and all the facilities worked well. Staff were very helpful and they put on a good breakfast. It was also not far from the town centre and had car park reserved for you.Highly recommended!!

Our host, Michael, was very gracious and helpful to all of our needs. He also could double as a standup comic...very entertaining. I would recomment Burton B&B to anyone. Breakfast was excellent and filling.
