Very tired hotel

Posted 28-Oct-2014
Pros: Parking, pool, beds very comfy
Cons: Needs updating
Location: Harry Potter Studios - fantastic.
It is sad that this hotel has not been updated for some years as it definitely has potential. All was ok and clean - beds very comfy - but just all way too out of date. Upon arrival had to move rooms as in our original room the toilet wouldn't even flush. Nice pool and lovely spa, food nice, staff friendly enough. Good parking. Wifi advertised as free and "strong" but to be honest rather pathetic - had to revert to 3G to get any response on internet.

Beware creaky floorboards

Posted 27-Sep-2014
Pros: White, clean bedding. Breakfast wasn't too bad and very friendly staff.
Cons: The in-room decor, repair creaky floorboards.
Location: Great location for the Warner Bros Studio Tour
We stayed on the bottom floor towards the back of the hotel, and right next to a small flight of steps. All through the night we could hear people passing as if they were in our room, going up and down the stairs. The room itself had creaky floorboards and the room looked very dated. The bedding was clean, and white which was about the only nice thing. We had tea in the restaurant and at £15 a pizza, I would have rather gone next door to McDonalds. The buffet breakfast wasn't too bad. Overall, not bad for a 1 night stop over for the Warner Bros Studio Tour (and in a decent distance to it too), but for an extra £10 a night you could go to the Hilton about 500m up the road.

They did not hold a room for me

Posted 25-Sep-2014
Pros: The hotel has reasonable rooms and reasonable fitness facilities.
Cons: Better management of room bookings. Customer service, e.g. showing some concern when a mistake has been made and making some effort to compensate
Location: The location of the Mercure is convenient for my companies office. The Jury's Inn in the centre of Watford is not.
Despite booking my room on Expedia I arrived at the hotel at 21:30 to be told that they did in fact not have a room for me as they had overbooked the hotel and that they were moving me to the Jury's Inn in Watford. The staff seemed to think this would be fine and I would not have any issue with this. This was not the case, since the Mercure is 5 minutes from my companies office and the Jury's Inn is in the centre of Watford, meaning that my travel time the next day was >50 minutes.

mouldy bedroom walls, dirty carpets

Posted 04-Sep-2014
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything!!
Never again!! staff are rude, hotel is dirty, and the rooms are disgusting. This hotel needs shutting down. I was greeted by the staff, who were all talking about there night out they was arranging. I asked for a double room, two singles pushed together was just not acceptable. The kettle was black inside, and the wardrobe was damaged. the carpet was dirty, marked and stained along with a cork screw in the corner, (shows It hasn't been cleaned) Dirty net curtains with condensated windows and half the wallpaper peeling under the radiator is appalling.

Good pool

Posted 25-Aug-2014
Pros: The pool, free parking, the noise levels.
Cons: The staff could be a bit politer/keener to help.
The room was comfortable - if too warm, but that seems to be a feature of all hotel rooms these days. Good bed, good bathroom, reasonably quiet. We had a lovely swim in the pool in the morning, which was great. The jacuzzi was rather nice too.

Great stay

Posted 11-Aug-2014
Pros: Room, cleanliness, efficiency and politeness of staff, pool and fitness center, price, family friendly.
Cons: Not that I can think of.
Location: Can't imagine staying here with out a car as it's on main highway.
Last minute booking. Expected this to be a really basic hotel (v. inexpensive) but it was so much better. Everything we needed in the room. Fantastic staff. Really nice and clean pool. Great breakfast. Incredible value for money. Will def. return.

Poor hotel

Posted 11-Aug-2014 on Hotels.com
Poor quality hotel. Felt we paid a decent amount of money for a one night stay but the hotel was poor. No information in room about hotel facilities including check our times etc. Apparently, receptionist should have given us some scrappy bit of paper informing us of all the hotel facilities when we checked in! Also no shower caps in room - if you want one you have to ask reception!! Chambermaid knock on our door at 10.15 and as us what time we were leaving - find out check out wasn't until 12.00 noon. Rooms a bit dated but clean, corridors very noisey.

Not a 4 star hotel. Way too expensive for what it is. Poor breakfast buffet.
