“Montpellier - brilliant location and very comfortable”

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights as our daughter was enrolling at the university in Montpelier. Although not located near the university this hotel is in an ideal location. It is just around the corner from the Leon Blum tram stop and near to the central transportation hub of Place de l'Europe, where all the buses leave for the beaches, airport shuttle etc. and where the two tram lines intersect. The Antigone area of Montpelier is clean, modern and pedestrianized with cafes, bars and a market on Wednesdays. You can easily walk into the city centre from here through the Galleries Lafayette shopping centre which takes you right into the heart of the city - the Place du Comedie. Breakfast in the hotel is too expensive. There is a cafe just around the corner where it costs a lot less for coffee, orange juice and a croissant. I found the wifi inconvenient too. The hotel supplies a code which allows you to login to the Meteor service however, I found that I could only use it for one session. Even though access is meant to be for 24 hours it cut out if my PC went to sleep. Above all though this is a great little hotel for both business and leisure. Montpellier is a great destination for a city break.

Area recommendations
Place du Comedie is the heart of the city and the main meeting point. The old town is worth wandering through too for atmosphere and the cafe scene. The shopping centre has everything you need and is just off the main square. The transportation system, especially the trams are terrific and great value. There is a great out of town shopping and leisure complex called Odysium which is at the end of the tram line where you can find all of the fashion shops, Ikea, a very large supermarket called Casino, cimemas and an ice rink. You don't really need a car here as the tram or buses will get you where you need to go, even the beaches.
Getting there
We flew into Montpellier from Birmingham on Ryanair. There is a shuttle bus that takes you into Place de L'Europe where you can catch a tram to the other parts of the city. Have plenty of coins though as the ticket machines don't take notes.

“Short break in Montpellier”

Good clean hotel close to everything including sights, shopping, trams, airport shuttle etc. Train to Sete recommended for seaside. Excellent rail links generally. La Place on corner of Antigone was friendly.

Area recommendations
Little train ride helps get bearings. Local beach a bit stony, try Sete but beware - long walk from Sete station. Get bus to les plages!!

“Good clean hotel”

We chose Kyriad on the basis of location and price. We were visiting our daughter who lives in Montpellier and were looking for a good hotel that was central. We had used Kyriad in Blois before and had been very happy with the group. The hotel delivered everything that we expected of it and were therefore pleased with our stay.

Area recommendations
The Antigone district where the hotel is located is a very interesting modern development , however the real attraction for us was the old city with its maze of winding streets with history, boutiques and restaurants running hand in hand. The views from Peyrou were stunning and there was nothing better than people watching with eother a glass of wine or a cup of coffee in La Place du Comedie.
When to go
We were in Montpellier in Autumn, still warm enough for a Scot to walk around in shirt sleeves.

“Easy on the wallet, clean, well situated hotel”

Our room was very clean. The bathroom was modern, big shower, clean, seemed to be quite new. The room, with a queen bed, was tight, but adequate. The TV volume was governed, so it could not be heard terribly well, but I guess the trade-off is you don't have to listen to someone else's TV if you're trying to sleep. The street car stop is 2 short blocks away, very convenient for travel on public transportation. We arrived on Saturday and were told we could park on the street behind the hotel thru Monday without paying for a parking meter ticket or fear of a fine, of which we were skeptical, but it was indeed true. On Sunday morning, there was a terrific open air market one block or so beyond the tram stop, which was where we shopped for our picnic breakfast. We were happy with the staff, location, amenities, and it was a very reasonable price for one night - a Saturday night, too.

Area recommendations
The central square, Place d'Opera I think, and the winding streets and alleys around it. The city is compact, filled with students, and a remarkable place to walk, people-watch, and just relax.

“Reception desk in training”

Ugly lobby, adequate rooms, slow elevator, no restaurant, reception in training. For the price, there are nicer hotels in the Antigone neighborhood of Montpellier.

Area recommendations
Montpellier is a schizophrenic city. The Antigone neighborhood, where the Kyriad is located, is all modern, large-scale pale faux classical buildings that don't feel like France at all. A 15 minute walk away -- down the long corridor -- is the historic district, starting at the Place de Comedie. That's where the people watching and old-France feeling starts. It's more fun to stay closer to the historic district. (I recommend the Pullman -- a very comfortable hotel next to the Polygone commercial center.

“Good rooms, excellent staff, great breakfast!”

This was my second stay at the montpellier Kyriad (last tim around 6 years back) The rooms appear to have been recently refurbished to a good standard, with well thought out ensuites and flat screen TV. I found the bed maybe a little firm but that's just a personal preference thing. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and most spoke some English. The current exchange rate of 1stg=1euro makes 10pounds for breakfast a little pricy, but the food is excellent and unlimited!

Traveller's tip
The small restaurant on the corner next to the Kyriad serves good quality french cuisine, expect around 50euros for three courses inc wine for 2. We can also highly recommend Don Peppino's Italian restaurant, on Rue Sainte-Croix. Pizzas are superb, make sure you try the hot oil. other standouts are the carbonara and steak fillets

“Nice hotel close to the centre of Montpellier”

I found this hotel to be ideal for location, comfort and cleanliness. Location - 5 to 10 minute walk from the Polygon made it easy to get to the town centre. Comfort and Cleanliness - The room was comfortable and clean, and well maintained. Hotel Staff - all very friendly and helpful. Considering the prices of the other hotels around the same location I would say this one is well worth the money.

“would stay at the Kyriad again!”

The room we stayed in has just been refurbished (it was on the 2nd floor) and was very nice & clean. Very comfortable bed and duvet. The breakfast buffet was very handy as everywhere was closed on Sunday, good choice of pastries, bread, ham, cheese, jam etc and fresh orange juice. Hotel is only 5 minute walk from the Polygone and 10 mins from Place de la Comedie, conventient for restaurants & cafes.

“double rooms are good for single occupancy”

Best location, Clean but very small rooms. Difficult to move in the rooms if you are 2 and you have booked a double room.

“Good place to stay for a few nights”

Good modest hotel with basic facilities. Enjoyed my stay.

Traveller's tip
Montpellier a wonderful, clean old city with no car traffic in the city center but good communication by modern tramway.
