“Not bad, but wouldn't go back”

Blue Aegean Apt were adequate for our purpose. i like to book my holidays well in advance so as to get a much better deal and the Blue Aegean at the time fit the bill. We travelled to Crete at the end of August arrived in the small hours of the morning and staff were so helpful in getting up settled in. We opted for the 1 bedroom apt for family of 4 which is adequate if your kids are still quite young - ours are10 & 7. As for the apt amentities, i found it quite dissappointing for a 4*. The kitchen is minute, more a kitchenette, not enough crockery to cook or eat with and no w/machine. It would help if the apt had mosquito netting doors or somethind because it was so hot and so we had to keep the windows open but then the kids suffered from so many bites; its a good thing these mosquitoes dont carry malaria. Rooms are kept relatively clean with a maid service everyday but you need to be pretty sharp - as the sheets only goyt changed when we literally stripped them off the beds. If not the maids will only straighten out your stale sheets to live another day.

Area recommendations

Travel to Elounda and take a boat trip to Spinaloga. This was the highlight of our trip - Inspired mw to read the book 'The Island'. This is 11/2 drives east of Gouves Malia, I understand is a clubbing, young adults scene. We only drove through to Elounda we didint stop - not really our thing!!! Also, go down to Heraklion (city) there are a few museums, good shops, and great eating places to visit

Getting around

Because Govues is very quite we needed to travel around a bit to keep ourselves entertained. I would recommend a car unles you plan to spend your whole holiday at the beach front. Oraginesed tours and excursions put on by Thomas Cook were just too expensive in my opinion. Also with the time we arrived on the Island taxis would have cost a fortune!!!

What to pack

Lots of insect repellant cream Sun screen ear plugs - Cricket noises drove me mad for the first few nights dish washing items - sponge/brush, tea towels (you dont want to buy a whole packet from the supermarket)

Must see

I recommend the Crete Acquarium if you have young kids they would certainly enjoy it. Blue Aegean is 5 mins drive or a good 35 - 40mins walk to the Aqarium Spinaloga Island - the whole experience including the boat ride and if you have time a walk along the habour at Elounda. Great!!!

Events and shows

Shows are held most weekend evenings at the Blue Aegean - I wouldnt say the kids would enjoy it though. A restaurant across the road called the Island host more exciting stuff - Tuesday and Fridays you buy a ticket which entitles you to a meal and entertainment on the night.
