The views - mountains and sea - superb - rooms with balcony - superb - the hosts - superb - what more can i say - its a throwback to pre pc days and absolutely fantastic.....! You need to check this place for youselves - i cannot recommend it enough. By the way the breakfasts are the best in or out of the UK - go and be stunned - beautiful....!
Arrived from airport via hire car to the village. Hire car worth getting as you may wish to get food from supermarkets and sight see. Not imperative - but taxi to & from airport for family of five would have been a fifth of car hire anyway.
Our apartment was self catering (although they obviously do breakfast and other quality food offerings), clean & had air-con in bedrooms. Basic kitchenette was functional with full size fridge. Maid service with fresh sheets every 4 days, and towels every two. Rubbish removed and loo roll replaced. Floor mopped and beds made on towel change over.
Swimming pool clean, nice bar area, not too busy even when hotel was full.
The couple who ran the business were professional, kind, courteous and attentive. They were approachable and extremely knowledgeable about the area. Really can't thank them enough for their welcome.
We went on several trips as we like to alternate between pool days & sight seeing with our 3 kids.
Recommend Spinalonga, Lasithi Plateau (turn right at T junction as you approach plateau and grab coffee at flower laden taverna on left - two km from the cave of Zeus) worth a visit. Take trainers - it's a 1km plod up a rocky path. We also made it to the water park - Aquaplus - which was good to do - but go later (3pm) as there is only so long one can splash about for...
Lots of great restaurants in village - Piscopiano. Kostas; Litchnos; Patricko and Aposperida were our favourite - service and food grea
Wonderful stay at sunshine village, really can't find fault with this hotel. Stayed with our 3 children, 14,11+11, apartment was basic but clean + comfy also very large rooms + beds made every day. Food + staff excellent, hotel in a good spot short walk to beach + shops ( hill to climb on way back)
Would definatly recommend this hotel, lovely people + just perfect for a relaxing holiday, we will return soon.
Back again this year had a lovely time again the owners are very warm and friendly and go out there way to make your holiday complete. The apartments are spotless and clean ,would recommend the apartments to friends and family or anyone looking for a real nice friendly stay in stalis .Hope to see you again next season .
We stayed at Elgoni Apartments for 3 nights with a baby. The owners were very nice, very helpful. We had a hard time to find the place but it might be cause we arrived at night and it was so dark that we had a hard time to see the signs. The room/apartment was very big, and the owners did everything to make it as comfortable as possible. We had a kitchenette so we could cook a bit and buy your own food for breakfasts.
However, the shower was very bad (not even a hook to suspend the shower head), there was not a lot of hot water. Also you have to pay 7 Euros extra a night to have the air conditionning (which we paid cause it was very hot). The pool was very deep with no stairs (harder to swim with a baby).
The neighbourhood is very calm and residential, and it is walking distance from restaurants and shops.
But if you want to go the the beach you have to take a car and it is not close.
Buildings and gardens around property are really well maintained and feel authentically Cretan yet modern. Small cluster of apartments at top of hillside mean it is quiet and a good place for a relaxing stay, yet close enough to Archanes to pop into the town square for a meal in the evening (recommended - local cafes and hotels are good). Staff / owner were lovely. The place is small enough to give a good personal experience.
We arrived late at night and it can be a little hard to find in the dark. Many local roads are unnamed and very steep and can just peter out into dirt tracks. Part of the charm but best to be ready for it. Discovered next day a lot of signs about halfway up lamp posts in the area giving directions.
3 of us shared a studio apartment which was basic but had everything we needed. The room itself was spacious and had a lovely little balcony. The apartment was very clean, there was a well equipped kitchenette and air con.
Located within stumbling distance from the main strip but far enough away not to hear any noise.
The main plus for me was the hospitality of the staff, they were so friendly and happy to accommodate our every need.
The hotel not only had a lovely big pool but they served excellent cocktails too.
I would highly recommend this hotel for anybody staying in Malia
