“Would stay here again and reccomend to anyone visiting Helsinki!”
The hotel is very modern and stylish but comfortable. The room was simple, with very comfy beds, lots of storage space and lots of plug sockets (important for charging phones / laptops / camera batteries) The temperature of the room was stable, never too hot or cold. We really appreciated the free wi-fi as it helped us to plan our sightseeing and where to eat and drink in the city, without having to consult a map whilst out and about in the cold. (-20) The hotel staff were very friendly and happy and left us alone most of the time which is just the way we like it. You almost felt like you were in your own private appartment with a cleaner and a chef! Which brings me to the breakfast, which is by far the best breakfast buffet I have experienced! A good mixture if healthy and not so healthy, but very tasty food, here we discovered the Finnish RICE PIES! yum yum, and of course enjoyed a traditional english brekkie. The hotel bar had a nice relaxing atmosphere, and I hightly reccomend a pint of Karhu (Bear) Beer. We would definately stay here again, it's so central for all the shops and sights, and not too far from the airport.
“Scandic Simonkenttä, Simonkatu, Helsinki - as reliable as ever.”
I first stayed at this hotel in 2000 when it was built (actually they hadn't technically completed it!) and it's as clean and contemporary today as it was then: typical Finnish style. Since the introduction of the Basic Human Right of internet access in Finland, you'll find the Wi-Fi is open (PDAs may have an issue in the rooms though as their reception isn't always so good), and there are some terminals in the lobby. Breakfast is excellent with a wide range of cooked foods as well as the usual, high-standard Finnish foods, and breakfast is served until 9:30 or later weekdays. The location is excellent, and since the redevelopment of the Kamppi bus station, the 3T trams have been re-routed and now stop in both directions directly outside the hotel which may be useful for people who have difficulty getting around or just don't want to walk much (although Helsinki isn't a place to visit if you don't like walking - it positively encourages you to take in the sights by foot as it's nice and manageable in size). If I were to nit-pick on the hotel I'd say the rooms aren't for the feint hearted if privacy is your thing (may be important if you're sharing with a friend) as the bathrooms in the room have a porthole into the main room and although the glass is opaque, there's a clear edging to it, so it's perfectly possibly to see someone on the lav! Oh, and if you forget a corkscrew they'll charge you €6 to buy one downstairs! Highly recommended though.
“best breakfast buffet ever”
Central, convenient hotel with comfortable rooms. The buffet breakfast was the best I have ever come across - a whole range of quality food for all tastes. yum! All main sights are within easy walking distance - just 10 minutes to the main market and harbour area and we walked to the ferry port to go on to Tallinn.
“Good clean and central location”
Good all round hotel in great location with convenient access to train station
“Modern hotel in city centre”
In brief: Room - modern, simple, very clean, no minibar/fridge though. Breakfast - buffet was extensive and high quality. Staff - helpful with restaurant bookings, easy check in/out. Location - Very central just off main shopping street, 10-15min walk to harbour. Overall - very impressed with price and quality of hotel stay, would highly recommend.
“good value”
Near city centre , shops and restaraunts etc ver claen and modern
“Recommended, but...”
A comfortable ,modern hotel, well located. However, it would benefit from attention to detail - I stood at reception for several minutes whilst the receptionist finished some administration before serving me, the bedcover was stained, and the breakfast room is very crowded. Also, the hotel restaurant and kitchen are closed on Sunday evenings.
“excellent value and of a high standard”
If you want to visit Helsinki i can certainly recommend this hotel. Visiting for a family event we arrived via the Finn Air bus from the airport , quick and cheap for about a quarter of the price of a taxi for two and then walked to the hotel to arrive at 10.00 p.m. The restaurant was still open, so a late dinner (reindeer steak ) and the a short walk for some night life to Molly Malones. Sight seeing the next day and everywhere was within walking distance. Finland is not cheap for food , drink and just about everything else but this hotel was of a high standard and very competitively priced. Mind you it was the middle of winter and minus 18 centigrade so I can't tell what the prices would be like in the summer when most sane people will be visiting.
“A nice hotel”
The hotel itself a typically modern design, and is conveniently situated about 100m from the main railway station. Even with an outside temperature of -18C my room was warm and comfortable. The staff were universally helpful and all spoke immaculate English. The bar meal I had was very good and I was well looked after throughout the evening. My only minor gripe is that I would have preferred to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Recommended,
“Value for Money”
+ very central location, amenities very near + decent price - good value for money + basic modern Scandinavian rooms + helpful & friendly reception staff + everything worked with Scandinavian efficiency (except the breakfast & cleaning staff) - TV in a weird angle on top of the wardrobe - very confusing TV channel system, not working properly - maid cleaned the rooms only superficially - very small breakfast area, tables were full of dirty dishes from previous diners - room was 1st floor, quite noisy on the weekend nights
