“love to go back !”
A clock is very necessary in the room ! I didNOt see one !!
“Cost / Benefit satisfaction hotel”
Very near from Explanada with nice shops and restaurants, the market square is amazing and only 5 minutes walking from the hotel. Delicious breakfast buffet included (not salmon anymore!). One step away from the cruises port. My 5th time there and I am definitively going back.
“great location”
Really enjoyable hotel in good location, highly recommended.
“Convenient to Ferry and Market Square”
This hotel caters to business customers but is great for tourists as well. If you are using Viking Line ferries to Stockholm or Tallinn, the terminal is across the street. The central Market Square and Senate Square is less than a 10 minute walk. The hotel restaurant is reasonable and prepares good food. The breakfast is predictable Scandanavian fare but ample. The rooms featue free WiFi and are comfortable. My only observation is that there is no way to adjust the temperature of the room. Overall an excellent hotel if a little pricey.
“Quiet location, Easy access to rest of city”
Didn't look promising on arrival as very close to Viking Line ferry terminal. Inside, however, was clean, well laid out and comfortable. The hotel is less than 5 mins walk to the market square and also less than 100yds from a tram stop (Route 4) giving easy access to the whole city. Buffet breakfast included a wide range of hot & cold foods & drinks. Dinner was a little limited with a set menu. Draught beer & cider in bar was similarly priced to bars in the city Only quibble is that I would have liked a kettle in the room
“skinny hot room”
During the summer the brick building heats up. This was early september. Then at night the room stays warm because there is no A/C. So room is hot at night when sleep is attempted. Over half the rooms are very narrow, so there is only a twelve inch walking area at foot of bed. Apart from these two disasters, food is fine, hallways are very pretty, and location is convenient. Staff are helpful with superb english. No CNN.
“Good location”
Hotel was fair but for me location was good. Short walk into downtown Helsinki. Very short walk to terminal for ferry to Tallinn for day trip.
“Not a 5 star hotel”
Although ideally located, we were very disappointed with the hotel. Check-in time is 14h00, but our room was not ready before 15h30. As the left luggage room is an uncontrolled mess and there is no restaurant in the immediate vicinity, we had to settle for overpriced sorry looking sandwiches for lunch. We had paid for a family four bedroom but our room only had a double bed and a single bed pull-out. When we inquired, we were told that the hotel was fully booked and there was nothing that could be done. On arrival, the cleanliness of the room was not up to standard, and the daily cleaning did not even include fresh glasses. Finally, the breakfast was average and the overall customer service was not satisfactory.
“Overall, a good experience.”
The location of the hotel was the best part of our stay at the Grand Marina. It was a short walk to the harborfront which was a buzz of activity with the outdoor market, Uspenski Cathedtral, Helsinki Cathedral, Old Market Hall, Esplanade Park, and easy access to many ferry lines. It is close to all of the action yet on a quiet street to ensure a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel itself seemed clean and well maintained with a great breakfast. My minor complaint is with the air conditioning which we felt did not cool the room enough during the day. This was not a big issue since most of our days were spent exploring the city. A bigger concern was upon arrival. We arrived 2 hours before check-in time to a lobby full of other guests waiting to check in. We were told by the apologetic staff that the computer system was temporarily down and early check-in was unavailable; that is understandable. What I found to be questionable was the front desk staff's failure to notify us 3 hours later that we could finally get to our room. I found out only after observing another party arrive, check in, and receive their room keys. Since we were camped out with all of our luggage, tired from an overnight flight, just steps to the right of the front desk, it would have been a much appreciated gesture for one of the staff to call or simply wave us over to finally regisiter. Thankfully I did not fall asleep waiting for 3 hours like my aunt did otherwise, who knows how long we would have waited.
“Not regrettable at all !”
Very good hotel with reasonable costs. Staffs quite friendly, and breakfast, one of the best I've experienced ! Hotel is not right in front of the main spots, but all walking distance though, about 5 mins to Market Square and 15 mins to Central Station, or you can also take a tram to see around which station is very close to the hotel. Room was very well maintained, spacious and most of all, very quiet unlike other hotels which are right in the middle of center area. If you want comfortable sleep in quieter area, but still close to the center, this hotel is IT! Only missing thing is a view, as there is a big building right across which blocks view to the port, but it was manageable. Maybe top floor or some other rooms which are not blocked shall be a better choice. Generally very satisfied and can consider staying there again.
