El Capitan Lodge

Posted 04-Oct-2014
Pros: We were on a road trip from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe and this was about the half way point. Food at the casino was very good.
Cons: For the price of the room and reading previous reviews, we pretty much knew what we were getting. Modernization would be a big plus.
Location: Don't really know as we were there for the night heading to Tahoe the next morning.
Badly needs a makeover. Bathroom floor and corners weren't very clean. In fact, staff at the desk were talking about the rooms not being appropriately cleaned and ready for customers. TV was extremely old and didn't get good reception. Light bulbs were out over one of the beds, over the the TV and in the bathroom. Keys to the room were the old fashioned key and didn't feel particularly safe.

Reasonable hotel

Posted 28-Sep-2014
Pros: Convenient location along my route.
I needed an inexpensive place to stay overnight on a long drive. This fit the bill. Nothing fancy, just a basic room. It was clean and quiet. My reservation was for a non-smoking room with a pool view, and instead I got a smoking room with a street view, but luckily there wasn't any smoke odor.

Pros: quiet,
Cons: room needs a makeover.
Location: i went to Bodie
okay motel, needs a facelift. the room was clean and the stay was quiet. i was there Labor Day weekend and the Motel 6 in Bishop was asking $ ____ a night so if you don't mind driving 50 miles or so, it was a deal.

The hotel was recommended to us by friends who stay in the camp ground. When we arrived there was a staff party (Saturday of long weekend) in the pool and no one was allowed to use the pool. Other guests were very upset as well. No one was told the pool would be closed and the temperature was 94 F.

El Capitan Hawthorne Nevada

Posted 10-Apr-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything in the room.
Location: El Capitan Casino Bank of American
Room had two double beds. Pillows were very poor. Carpet was extremely filthy. Bathroom toilet would not flush. Shower was hot but spray was just a trickle. Soap in bathroom was so small that it was not adequate. Would not return.

7 days

Pros: Nothing
Cons: See above
The room is quite old and needs some basic maintenance. The shower faucet is loose therefore I could not adjust the temperature of the water. The coffee pot did not work. The sheets were not change the whole 7 days. One of the days the bed was not made and the used linens were left on the floor. The drapes do not close, I used a safety pin.

Adequate lodging at a reasonable price

Posted 12-Mar-2014
Pros: The price, adequate accommodations, and proximity to where I do business.
Cons: Maybe a little better TV and reception
I have occasion to come to Hawthorne on business, and the El Cap provides me with a comfortable room, at a very reasonable price.

Adequate but good food.

Posted 11-Mar-2014
Pros: Friendliness of the waitresses
Cons: Update it to the modern era
Location: Strictly a stopover on the way from Lake Tahoe to Las Vegas
This is an old hotel complex from the 50's era. It is adequate, but then it is the only hotel for 100 miles in either direction. The restaurant and waitresses are very good. Unfortunately while we were at dinner my camera was stolen from my room as the door locks are the key type and very old.
