“Great hotel! Beautiful location.”
The room itself was a little on the plain side, I kind of expected a little more decorations, but the view made up for it. The hotel is in a beautiful location right next to the water, so you can fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the beach (I definitely recommend paying the little extra for the better view, it's gorgeous!). It's also in the middle of a great area of the island with tons of night life and lots things to do within walking distance. The hotel luau was fun too. The food was a little bland but the show and mai tai's were excellent! We went to the dinner buffet and ordered off the 2 dinners for $65 which included a bottle of wine, an appetizer, two entrees and a dessert, it was the best dinner we had the whole trip! Well worth the price; not to mention it overlooked the ocean, which made it even more worth it. The hotel bar is also great. The selections are endless and all the drinks were very well made. Travis was our favorite bartender! He made awesome recommendations and made the drinks just right. (I highly recommend trying one of his famous bloody marys). He knew the island very well and was able to tell us where the best spots were. We were very thankful for his couteous service and prestigious knowledge. Overall it was a great trip and a great hotel! Mahalo!
“Ocean View for Garden Price”
Stayed at the Royal Kona for four days at the beginning of our trip. We were booked in for a garden view, which we had but their hotel lanai is designed in such a way that it wraps around and in the corner suite we were able to have an ocean view, and watched the dolphins almost everyday. The problem with having a room on the north side of the building over the street, there is significant noise from trucks unloading at all hours. They have a spectacular location and the pool is beautiful. They hold the luau there on some nights so if you aren't going you will have to go outside later in the evening if you want to sit and listen to the waves. The morning buffet breakfast was well stocked, and changed a bit everyday. Their was usual breakfast fare of cereal, fruit etc. but also had the hot choices eggs, sausage or bacon (that changed daily), hash browns, and breakfast burritos, and oatmeal, miso soup, rice as well as assorted pastries and baked goods and either delicious blintzes or waffles with hot fruit compote. Our one issue with the breakfast is they only have coffeemate for coffee, no real cream so we had tea each day unfortunately because we are morning coffee people. We asked about the cream but the staff said they used to put it out but people asked for coffeemate (which doesn't go bad - I think the real reason) The lagoon is a wonderful place to snorkel when the tide is in and has a beach area to sun in. We plan to stay again but definately an ocean view.
“Good Location in Kona”
Very conveniently located. With in walking distance of great restaurants. Close to airport and marina where snorkeling, dolphins swims, and manta ray swims begin. Was charged for things I expected to be included like parking and internet access.
“Room condition needs improvement”
Balcony needs updating. Wood screen door gets stuck. While returning back from the beach with dirty towels, the Receptionist told us to bring the dirty towels back to our room onthe 6th floor instead of taking it from us. There were 4 receptionist on hand talking with each other. Very unprofessional and bad service from this experiance on the last afternoon stay.
“Convenient Location Hotel in Kona”
It's our first time 3 day trip to the Big Island. Royal Kona's location is great, quite closed to the town and very convenient to walk within a few minutes to get anything you need. There is an Expedia Local Service Room right in the ground floor in Royal Kona. Friendly lady... The room is clean and all in good conditions. What I disliked, there is a locked wooden door to the other room, sometimes we can hear my neighbour's voices in the night...
“Good value for the price”
Although this is an older hotel we found it to be a good deal. Our room was very clean as were the common areas of the hotel. Air conditioning was a bit loud but once we were use to it no big deal. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. This is by no means a luxury resort but it was a solid mid-level hotel.
“Wish I could go back but the flight is to long.”
We loved the hotel the staff are the best, expeida at the hotel worked with us each day great work kathy. You need to rent a car to travel around they have a bus that has a cheap price on and off. The food is a little high at the hotel take extra money but we found a great place down the road the lava java great food over all had a great time.
“Fun In Kona”
We had a problem with the first room, but the front desk staff changed us into another room and everything was great for the week we stayed there. Great location and comfortable bed.
“Good quality for price- great location!”
The rooms include a wet bar which is great. Most rooms have ocean view and you cant beat the location!
“It is what it is”
Honestly this hotel looks better in the pictures that it is. I also stayed at the Royal Lahiana in Maui, which was pretty good, and was expecting something similar when I arrived in the BI. The hotel was pretty dingy looking and rooms (which were supposed to have been renovated) looked dank and dark (not what you would want in a resort area). the lagoon and pool are tiny which is a big deal since there really are not good beaches in walking distance. The place is however right in the middle of the town in Kaluai-Kona (which is not much itself). There is a shuttle bus that takes you around to other areas at 2 dollars per ride. If you are looking for a cheaper motel the Royal Kona is what it is. Just keep your expectations low. Its a cheaper motel in a decent location. I would highly recommend paying extra and staying at the Sheraton at Keahou Bay. You will pay about 80 dollars more per night but the resort is outstanding (huge pool and awesome views) plus the shuttle service is included. Highly recommend going to outrigger bay from the shuttle and snorkel in the water. Plenty of big fish and turtles to see.
