“Good value, excellent staff”

Good value for the price during the off season. Nice condo style suites. Friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were clean, though they could use a bit of touching-up.

“We loved it! Third time there and would go back in a heartbeat!”

Kona Coast Resort is a wonderful place to stay. It's clean and quiet. It has two pools, a restaurant, volleyball, shuffleboard, tennis courts and grilling stations. The condos have all the comforts of home but you're in a warm, inviting atmosphere to add to the pleasure of being in Hawaii. We would recommend this resort highly.

Area recommendations

Konatown is exciting. It has the Queen's Palace and the first church established in Kona. If you're in to shopping, eating or just having a beer there are many places to frequent. Go to Kona Brewing and take the tour (free), eat and have a local beer, well worth it. On Route 19 there are many beaches and shopping areas. To name a few, Waikoloa, Hapuna Beach (which is absolutely beautiful) and a name that doesn't come to mind, but it's right across from the Veteran's Cemetery. It's a beautiful white beach but parking is an issue. Up the road a piece is Hawi. Hawi is a quaint little town with a great restaurant (Bamboo). It has great views, nice local shops and is windy. Take a ride through the mountains, from Hawi, and experience the difference and diversity of Kona. Then take a ride to the volcanos. I can't even begin to express the awesomeness of Mother Nature! Make it a day trip and enjoy the botanical gardens along the way. The best advice is get a map, talk to locals and ENJOY your stay in Hawaii!!!

When to go

The best time we have gone is late October early November, the weather is ideal!! Later November it is a bit chiller and a lot cloudier but still warm.

What to pack

Staying at Kona Coast Resort we only packed seven days worth of clothes (staying for 13 nights) as they have washers and dryers in the condos and have irons and iron boards. If you don't want to be bothered with laundry, leave no room for gifts in you in your suitcase and come home with dirty laundry then be my guest! I prefer to make room for items of interest and not to come home with a mountain of laundry!! It's really up to you.

Dining

Fishhoppers is great, great LocoMoco (with Spam, Hawaiian favorite), great atmosphere, laid back and friendly. Pancho's and Lefty's is a great upstairs restaurant and bar to eat and people watch and Coconuts for awesome bartenders and great food. There are many places to go, it depends on what is to your liking. Humpy's was not so good!!!

“would go back”

I rated the cleanliness less than perfect because it was inconsistent. Some days it was great, but one day they didn't empty the kitchen garbage, another day one bathroom wasn't cleaned, and one day a staff person left their reading glasses on the table?! Made me a little uncomfortable.

“Quiet, convenient, reasonably priced, with home like features.”

We wanted to be able to keep our dining out expenses in control by having home like kitchen and dining facilities. The Kona Coast Resort more than met these needs. Our quarters on the third floor were spacious with two baths and a single king sized bed and bedroom. The only warning we would give is that there are no elevators so it was three flights up (36 steps) every time we went out. It wasn't a problem for us but it could be for others. The view off the lanai was towards the ocean over the adjacent golf course fairways. No beach access at the resort but some of the best snorkeling on the coast was at the state park about a half mile down the road. Free parking for the rental car also provided.

Area recommendations

Kona-Kailou. Close to all the typical activities most tourists would want. Convenient to the Kona Airport. Costco, Safeway, Walmart are easily shopped at if you have transportation.

“Loved Kona Coast”

Our condo was huge and the facilities were great. They rent/loan out things like snorkel equipment, beach umbrellas, pool and beach toys so it was a great place to bring our 3 year old. Just be aware that it's primarily full of retirees so it's a pretty quiet place. That was fine with us.

“Kona Coast Resort”

The bed was way too soft and the guests in the neighboring rooms made a lot of noise in the early hours of the morning. The resort is located to many local attractions and was easy to find.
