“First time in KOA”
We booked a 2 BR/2Bath Condo for a family of 4 adults, 1 four year old and an infant. They gave us a 3 BR instead which turned out to be great. Very courteous staff, had a problem with the over the counter microwave and they immediately gave a counter microwave. Excellent condo, great view of the ocean and golf course. only complaint is that their couches were not clean. They had some stains. Tip, if you need groceries, get them from Foodland. The queens market one is good for quick convenience. Overall we had a pleasant stay.
“Waikoloa condo”
Be aware that the hotel will assess a $40.00 charge per room, per stay, plus tax. Not sure what this represents. Pool is too small for adults to really swim. Presence of small children and infants discourage grownups to use the pool. "Happy hour" offers half price on mai tais, bottled beer and wine by the glass. Some units are much more desireable than others. Units in Building 17 are awkwardly located. There are tennis courts, hammocks and a basketball hoop. There is a full kitchen, but prepared to bring your own condiments if you really need to cook. Salt, pepper and paper towels are provided. Halii Kai is adjacent to "Fisherman's Trail", used by ancient Hawaiians. Bring sturdy hiking shoes as lava is abrasive. You can walk to A Bay beach and beyond in one direction; to Mauna Lani and beyond in the other. Beautiful coastline and view of sunset from the restaurant (lunch & pupus only) adjacent to the pool.
“The nicest resort we've stayed at”
Not very centrally located, so we had to drive a lot to get to sight seeing places, but it is a big island and there was just the two of us, so no big deal. The resort is beautiful; our condo was very nice and the view of the grounds was very pretty. We did not have a few of the ocean, but just had to go to the pool and restaurant area for that.
“Very nice alternative to hotels”
Better than anticipated, will return.
“Beautiful Condo Complex”
The complex is beautiful, we were a little wary due to the negative reviews but when we arrived we found a beautiful room and the pool is gorgeous, there is some shade to be found if you look so that was not a problem. We had a wonderful time and would go back.
“good value”
nice location, in Waikoloa next to Hilton ,on Sunny Kohala Coats-good value for money -large2 bd 2 ba ,with full kitchen ,living room and patio quiet loacation ,beautiful sunsets
“Luxurious and Comfortable Accomodation”
We were rention one of the villas. The furniture is expensive and comfortable, the villa was very well equipped with everything you might need. The kids loved the pool, and the sunrise view from the restaurant is one of the best in Hawaii. Very close to Hapuna beach, which we found to be the best beach around, and the Hilton next door has doplhin shows.
“Comforts of Home and so much more!”
My family and I stayed from July 25-August 4, 2011. We were more than impressed with our 2br/2bath. Though we had the garden view, the grounds are so well maintained and beautiful that you still feel like you're in paradise. Te owners really made this condo a vacationer's dream. The decor was tropical and we especially appreciated the grill in our own lanai. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and even a bike were there for use...we used every single day. The pool and gym overlooking the ocean was magnificent. My boys loved the pool and I loved that it was only 1-3ft in the kid's pool. We even used the pooside grill while the kids swam. Some suggestions: Go to Kua Bay between marker 88 and 89...just 15 min away from condo. The turquoise clear waters and white powder sand is a beach lover's dream and so picturesque! Get shaved ice at Kamuela's Shaved Ice in Waimea and malasadas (donuts) at Tex. Visit the Fairmont Orchid and Hilton Village...beautiful resorts to hang out. And last if you need groceries and can't get to Costco, Foodland in Mauna Lani (10 min.) drive has great selections and prices are great! Looking forward to returning and will definitely stay here again!!
“Amazing!”
From the second we walked into our villa it felt like home. The staff at the resort pool was wonderful. Working out at the edge of the ocean in the fitness center while being able to watch our child in the pool was priceless. We can't wait to come back!
“Fantastic Location and Amenities! One of our best vacations ever!”
We just returned from 10 nights at Halii Kai with our family of four (Boys 13 and 16). This was one of the best vacations we have ever had, and a big part of that was the decision to stay at Halii Kai. We stayed in unit 17B which was a 2 bedrrom 2 bath unit. The condo was very nice (This unit was not well decorated, but was very clean and comfortable). Building 17 is a great location (near pool and ocean grille), but it does not have ocean views. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. There is no beach at Halii Kai, but Hapuna Beach about 10 minutes from here was fantastic (not having a beach was our biggest concern but it really was not an issue). The pool is spectacular with views of the ocean, lava, and golf course. Very tropical landscaping. The pool is a bit "boring" for kids, but my wife and I thought it was one of the best pool areas we have seen at a resort. The ocean grille is poolside. The food and drinks were very good and not unreasonably priced for Hawaii. Kathy one of the waitress/bar staff was very friendly and accommodating. Most of our food we purchased from Costco (prices are very close to mainland), but the Island Gourmet market in the Queens shopping center is a great market and has everything you might need (obviously more expensive than Costco). The weather was perfect, as Waikaloa is one of the driest areas in the Hawaiian Islands. 10 nights and 11 days and no rain. It was beautiful everyday. We cannot wait to return and will stay here again.
