“Turner famiily by the sea!!!”

With just one small glitch we found our stay at the Aston Kona by the Sea wonderful. The first room they put us in had a very strong odor like mold, my husband quickly went to the front desk and told them of the situation and they found us another suite in the buiding next door. It was a much better room that looked liked it had just been painted and it had tile instead of carpet. The maid told us that the other room had water damage from a broken pipe and she couldnt believe they'd rent it out. They tried again and the next people complained. We found out they had to rip out carpet. With that behind us we loved the large suite, and the view of the ocean from our room. The property is getting older but for the most part it is well maintained. We would go back again and stay there. The pool area was nice with a view of the ocean and 3 gas barbecue grills used nightly and also cleaned every morning. Nice location as well

Area recommendations

We loved the beaches recommended by our expedia host. The one at Kua Bay was great for body boarding and had beautiful white sand. The trip to Hilo was nice in the surrounding area but the city itself is pretty worn down. We visited the Volcano park and loved the bakery that was in the town before we got to the Vocano. We bought sandwiches and goodies there. Best part of the store, clean restrooms and a nice little gift shop. We ate at Cafe Pesto in Hilo and had a great meal. Ultimate Burger in Kona had best hamburgers ever.

“Kona happiness”

The Kona by the Sea is a great place to get bang for your buck! The location is perfect - easy access to everything, the grounds are clean and have a great view and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The place is showing some age (i.e. carpeting, worn out furniture, very DATED tvs) but is overall clean and will give you everything you need. We very much enjoyed our peaceful stay here and would be happy to return!

Area recommendations

The downtown Kona area is a great place to stay. Walk to local beaches, shops and dining, but within 20 minutes drive of amazing attractions.

“Beautiful view!”

The room was better than I imagined. We ate breakfast on the lanai every morning. What a beautiful view! We are planning another trip to Kona and we will be staying at Aston Kona by the Sea.

“Will go back”

The Hotel is in a great location, very closed to some amazing beaches for family or snorkels. The Hotel has full kitchen with all cookwares. It's amazing you could cook some food you like and enjoy them with sunshine or sunset on the lanai. Almost every room have ocean front view. The Hotel has washer and dryer, it's very convenient to dry all clothes during the trip. Although the dryer in our room wasn't work. And the stuff gave me another room to dry the clothes. The only thing is the hotel need some updated, especially the doors inside rooms are outdated.

Area recommendations

Recommend the area around the Hotel. Some great beaches like Kahaluu Beach Park just few minutes away. Recommend the Volcano national park area and black sand beach.

Outdoors or beach

Kahaluu Beach Park is a perfect beginner snorkeling beach, 7 mins drive to south of the Hotel. Our son was so excited to see many turtles around and colorful fishes in the beach park. You just stand in the water, you will see lots of them. If you could snorkel there, then you won't be disappointed, too many tropical fish, larger than a foot, and swim quietly beneath you. My husband was swimming with a turtle. All memories are unforgettable. Go there in the morning.

“Quiet, relaxing.”

Although the property is old, we found it very clean and up-to-date. The room was very well appointed, and fit our needs exactly. Would definitely go there again.

“Perfect Stay!”

The condo we stayed in was even better than we could have imagined! Beautiful view of the ocean, the grounds were very clean, and it was far enough away from Kona downtown where we heard nothing from our room, but close enough to town it was a quick drive to whatever we needed. The only problem we had was a few key issues with the lock, but it was nothing in comparison to how good the overall stay was. If we ever go back, we will try and get the same exact room we had. It was perfect!

Area recommendations

Stay in Kona instead of Hilo. It has more of a resort feel and just felt cleaner and had more of a "Hawai'i feel". When chosing a hotel in Kona, be sure to see if you want to have a view of the ocean, you make sure that the hotel has one. Also, make sure there is parking. The area just south of downtown Kona was much better than in town.

“great place to stay”

Convenient and extremely nice location to stay on the big island. The hotel/condo units are well kept. The amenities =pool/hot tub were great and right on the ocean. Would stay again and highly recommend.

“HI oceanfront condo”

Beautiful views! Woke to the sound of the ocean and cute birds. Perfect for the extended family, with private areas and common areas. Loved the convenience of a washer/dryer in the condo.
