“Skiing in Chamonix/Les Houches”

Friendly staff, but limited office hours can make it difficult to contact them. Units are tight - go one size larger. Did not find out until late in our trip that fresh bakery goods could be ordered daily, but it is a nice option. Charges for WiFi in office were high, and Internet access in units needs to be added.

Getting around
Rental Car helps greatly to access ski areas including those in Italy and Switzerland.
Dining
A good number of dining options for a small town. Recommend - Le Duece.

“Great Place, Great Deal!!”

We enjoyed our stay very much. Charming place, good service and great deal.

Area recommendations
All the valley of Chamonix is a wonderful place and there is free public transportation (bus and train) during your stay and you can even go to Switzerland for free which was a great experience. If the weather is nice, there is a lot to see...
Getting there
We took a shuttle from Geneva airport directly to our accommodation for 25E and that was quick, cheap and wonderful.

“Spring Ski Week in Chamonix”

Booked a weeks skiing in Chamonix for 3 couples, staying at the MGM Les Hauts De Chavants. The apartments were generally small, but fine for two people. They were fully equipped with everything you needed. The pool was a bit of let down, as there was no designated changing area as such - which meant a walk to the swimming pool in your shorts! The other slightly disappointing thing was that our Chalet was the lowest one and the furthest away from the slopes - so we did not get ski in ski out. We had to walk down the road in ski boots! In terms of getting to all the other ski areas, there was absolutely no problem using the buses and all the public transport is free. I will be returning to Chamonix in the summer for Mtn Biking!

“Nice, quiet location”

On arrival at our accommodation we found it to be quiet & peaceful. Our apartment was a one bed for 3 people. Although the living/dining/kitchen area was adequate, with a sofa bed, we found the bedroom to be very small. Also, with us being on the 2nd floor, the bedroom and bathroom had a slanted roof which was so low that it was difficult to easily manoeuvre, without hitting the ceiling. The shower in the bathroom was so low, that it would only suit children or if you were only 4ft tall! I did request another room in the morning, but was told that the place was full for that week. So, unfortunately we had to put up with it. The hotel also has a pool, which we used once, but because of the lack of decent changing facilities and kids jumping in & out of the pool, we didnt use it again. In terms of location, the accommodation is literally 3 mins walk to the Prarion gondola, (some apartments are ski in-out, but ours wasn't). In terms of other facilities, there are only 2 ski shops, a convenience store and a small restaurant/cafe, which seemed to close early every night. So, getting to the shops to buy food for the week, became a bit of a chore as we had to catch a (free) shuttle bus both ways, which only runs every 30mins -1hr. The skiing area was good for beginners & intermediates, with a couple of red and a black run for the more adventurous!

Area recommendations
The area of the hotel, just outside Les Houches village centre is very quiet, with nothing much to do. You can travel to Les Houches village by free bus transfer, but the last one returns around 7.30pm, so not late. Unless you walk, which takes about 20 mins or wait for the night bus which only runs at 10pm and 11.30pm There are a couple of small local restaurants & bars, but if its nightlife you're looking for, I would recommend going to or staying in Chamonix, which is about 20 mins away by bus.
Getting around
Take advantage of the free bus shuttle to get to Chamonix and other ski resorts. (mind it gets very busy at times). There is also a train which runs from Les Houches to Chamonix & beyond, but only around once an hour and only till 7.30-8pm If you do get the train, dont get off at Viaduc St. Marie to get back to the hotel at night, as its a small unlit track in the woods & up a hill and difficult to see anything!

“Ideal place to stay for a small group / family.”

We stayed in a 4-6 sleeper, two bed apartment, which was clean, and relatively large compared to some apartments I've passed stayed in. Cars are optional (we used an airport transfer company as there was only two of us), but if you decide to use the buses, then your shouldn't have any problems getting around. Buses run regular up until 5.30pm, tails off up until 7.30pm. After that your need to wait for the night bus that which leave every 30mins or so from 10pm onwards. Chamonix Central takes about 20mins on the bus. Les Houches ski area ideal for beginners or families with small children, but there are some more challenging runs for those more advanced. There are some bars/resturants in Les Houches, but we typically headed into Chamonix. There are local shops too, the closest being around a 15mins walking, or 3mins on the bus. We'd definitely consider the apartments again - particular when traveling in a small group.

“Beautifull, quiet, and breathtaking”

The hotel was a little hard to find, but just ask and everyone knows where it is. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The views were breathtaking. Stayed at the very end of the summer season. Staff was very helpful in giving directions and information about the local area.

Traveller's tip
The hotel is located next to the second ski lift. During the summer you can ride it up to the top and either walk down or ride. Spent all day taking in the views
