“The Ideal Location”

The hotel is situated in a quiet part of Chamonix with easy walking access to the town centre. All the Reception staff were welcoming and informative. The apartment was roomy and well equipped and overall provided great value. We intend to return next year.

“very good”

this is was a sudio apartment, with a full kitchen and a nice balcony with impressive view of the mountains. no restaurant in the hotel but you can order a very nice breakfast the night before and have it in your room. It is walking distance from the town, bakery and cafes. Very convenient and would recommend it.

“Chamonix ski trip”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Balcons du Savoy. We were a party of 5 guys in two suites. The suites were comfortable with plenty of storage space. The ski storage downstairs was convenient. The kitchenette allowed us to have breakfast and evening snacks before going out for dinner. The twin beds separated for the pair sharing the main room and the sofa bed in the living room was comfortable. the lack of a bar or dining facilities was missed. The Turkish bath and swimming pool were very nice. The snow was not as plentiful as hoped so the ski in and ski out feature was not as convenient as we had hoped but overall the skiing was fun. We would definitely consider staying at the Balcons du Savoy on any future ski trips to Chamonix.

Area recommendations
I would stay closer to the center of the city as we skied in different areas each day and had to connect with buses. This would eliminate some walking to bus stops or the gondolas in our ski boots.

“Fantastic Place to Visit”

The hotel is in a perfect location. We had a view of Mont Blanc and our room overlooked a beautiful field. We were 2 minutes walk from town. The pool was lovely and made for a nice way to spend a rainy afternoon. Overall our experience here was wonderful and we can't wait to go back for a visit in the snow. Would highly recommend this hotel!

Area recommendations
We didn't have a bad meal while we were here. Would highly recommend the restaurants in the area. The hotel provided a book with recommended restaurants.

“Won't be impressing your friends”

The hotel was nothing fancy. Decent location, decent but dated rooms, no service. But it seems you could do much worse at Chamonix. The apartment layout was great and you could be much further out of town. As for Chamonix itself, the only other place we have skied in Europe is Zermat and I must say that it felt much more glamourous than Chamonix. Chamonix seems to be the Vail of Europe while Zermat was more like the Aspen. With that said, we had great snow in Chamonix in April! and the views were mind blowing. The town is charming. We spent $2k less on this vacation than we did going to Beaver Creek two years ago. Ultimately, this was a much more special experience.

Area recommendations
"Downtown" Chamonix.... Although the RHLBdS is not a far walk at all from town, it's really in town where all the excitement is. The location of RHLBdS feels suddenly suburban. And the couple of blocks you go through in town to get to the center feel a tad low rent. Nonetheless, we did enjoy its relatively close location to town - getting a baguette every morning. The hotel is not really ski in/out. It's about a 10 minute walk across a meadow to get to the lift.... but that's to just one of the resorts. Chamonix has several so you'll be taking the bus or driving to the other resorts. Taking the bus is NO fun. You have to walk about 5 or 6 blocks with your ski stuff on in to town. You wait for the crowded bus and 25 minutes later you're at the resort. I really would rent a car next time. The parking looked easy at each of the resorts we went to.
Family-friendly activities
We went with our 6 and 8 year old. We didn't use the ski school but hired a private instructor for them one morning. Skiing with the kids was pretty easy to do at the resorts. At Flegere, we skied on the big mountain with them. The restaurants are very kid friendly. The hotel had no computers, games or effectively any English speaking TV for kids. It was nice.

“Beautiful apartments with amazing views”

We loved the apartment we stayed in at the Balcons du Savoy. We had a split level apartment on the top floor with fantastic big picture windows looking out across Chamonix towards Mont Blanc. The sort of view you only ever dream of getting - and this time we had it! The apartment was well maintained and appointed, and the whole complex is efficiently run and staff were all extremely helpful. One extra little service that helped was bread could be ordered from reception and collected for breakfast - how convenient! Overall the location was fine - just a few minutes walk up from the centre of Chamonix, and the benefit of being above a small field meant those wonderful open views. I will definitely go back.

Traveller's tip
September was a great time to visit; Chamonix was fairly quiet and the weather was fine for walking. However note that some lifts close in early September which does slightly reduce the options.

“Breathtaking views and great service”

We stayed here for two night towards the end of our honeymoon in France in October 2009. We could not falt the service and the staff could all speak English. The facilities were great and it was like staying in a log cabin on a large scale. We had fantastic views from our balcony on the fourth floor and it was really nice to look over the large park in front. A lot of other accomodation looks in on other apartments but this one had a wide open space and views of the mountain range. The room was large and comfortable with everything you need in an apartment. They make you fill out a item by item inventory down to the toilet roll holder but apart from that everything is fine. It is convenient but still a good 5-10 minute walk into the night life strip. Overall great experience!

Area recommendations
Chamonix is very convenient to the lifts and scenic railway.

“Would Stay Again”

We booked this hotel as part of our honeymoon and were pleasantly surprised when they upgraded us and gave us a bottle of champagne. Service was friendly and helpful, much better than the other four star hotels we stayed at in France. DVD movies are included in the stay as well as a nice Turkish bath. It's slightly outside but within walking distance of the centre of Chamonix, which we liked as we enjoyed a bit of nature beside us instead of the concrete of downtown, and the view of the mountains is amazing. The full kitchen is very handy, and the grocery store is only a five minute walk away.
