“Hotel du Bois - would recommend!”
We stayed at the Hotel du Bois last weekend for a long weekend skiing. The hotel was lovely - just what we needed.......highly recommend having the buffet breakfasts and dinners too, as they just set you up perfectly for the day / next day. Wouldn't advise going into Chamonix without a plan to get home - we ended up paying 40 Euros for a taxi back!! Bit of a shock!! The hotel bar was lovely - nice log fire, and the TV showing the Winter Olympics. Only complaint would be the pool, which really was just too cold to go in after a day out on the slopes - we were quite disappointed by this, as we had chosen the hotel for the pool (to relax our aching muscles!!). All in all a very nice trip!
“We extended our stay”
The hotel was very friendly and helpful all the staff spoke english and nothing was too much trouble. They advised and offered discounts on the Mont Blanc Tunnel. The Hotel restaurant offered the best food and value for money in Les Houches and Chamonix. We were so impressed overall we extended our stay.
“Lovely!”
The hotel has lots of character and set against the mountains. We had a car so didn't have to worry about getting around and visited in May so were not there to ski. We had a lovely simple room with a balcony overlooking the mountains. It was quiet and peaceful and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay!
“Excellent hotel and location”
We stayed at Hotel Du Bois for 4 nights to ski the local area and found it fantastic. The lady at reception was extremely helpful and told us all we needed to know about the different ski areas and when to go. The room was perfectly big enough, the bathroom was clean and had the usual continental bath with no shower curtain! The hotel had a great buffet breakfast and we stayed each night for their buffet dinner which was varied and well cooked; good salads, meat and fish mains and variety of desserts. The bar was warm and cute with a log-burning fire and efficient barmen. We didnt use the pool so I can't comment on that but there were 2 saunas and they were clean and hot!
“Would stay again!”
Hotel Du Bois is a well run, friendly hotel. At check in we were given all the information we needed not only about the hotel but also how to make the most of our few days skiing. The hotel could arrange ski passes for Les Houches, complimentary mini bus transfers to the slopes and back and both recommended and took us to a ski hire shop where we were able to hire our skis in no time at all at very reasonable rates. The bus to get further a field (chamonix) is just a short walk from the hotel and the hotel provides complimentary passes for this too. For a short break we found Hotel Du Bois to be ideal and would definately consider going back.
“Incredible View”
We requested a room one the top floor at the back of the hotel when booking and were duly rewarded with the most incredible views of the mountains from the room balcony. We only stayed one night as a stop off on a road trip but would definitely return to this hotel should we ever get back there for a skiing weekend. Rooms were comfortable, being on the back of the hotel meant that there was no road noise, though there was very little traffic after 10ish anyhow. There was a indoor and outdoor pool and large backgarden for the kids, sunbathing, etc.. Good hotel. Recommended in this price range/location.
“Great for skiing around Chamonix valley - with car”
As always, good quality hotel; great view of the glaciers, friendly service, nice pool, good shuttle to les houches ski area, breakfast not bad but could be better, convenient by car for all the ski resorts - well kept secret until BA inflight magazine published it this month!
“Good location for car access to ski resorts”
While Les Houches is a small skiing resort with a limited range of attactions it is a good location for 30 min car access to skiing in Chamonix, Megeve and via the Mont Blanc tunnel, Courmayeur.
“Great view, but small bedroom.”
Very helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfast facilities. Clean, simple room with fantastic view looking directly at Mont Blanc. Room a little on the small side but good shower and mini bar present. Rooms on the back of the hotel have the great view. Quiet location with expensive (25 euros) taxi each way to Chamonix. We had a hire car but without one you would feel a little cut off from the centre of Chamonix. Good value considering some of the hotel prices in the area. Bar closes early and is a very quiet with a pretty good indoor swimming pool.
“Could be very good ...but isn't.”
This is a hotel undergoing refurbishment; its just a pity that all the rooms around us were being worked on from 8.30 till 5pm. Relaxation was difficult. Furthermore we were allocated a corner room with a public walkway immediately outside one window and a clear line of sight from the close-by chalet part of the hotel on the other. Privacy dictated drawing the curtains at all times of the day. An apology (in passing) was given on the penultimate day of our trip. The restaurant is fine; it serves a buffet nightly with a good range of food available; not haute cuisine but fine for the price. Beware large parties of oriental tourists staying for a single night. If they get to the breakfast buffet before you its possible you might go hungry.
