Room wasn't ready on arrival at 1600 dispite check in being from 1500. Requested a double bed but was allocated the only twin room. Helped to push the beds together, but no offer of a double duvet. The room was also cold on arrival. I was advised the heating would soon come on but it never did.

Beautiful old building. Food and drink was top notch. Room was spacious and the bathroom though quite small, was well appointed. No issues with external noise despite being so close to the A303 dual carriageway. The surrounding area is beautiful.

Characterful property near to Thruxton race track. Avoid room 3. Very, very noisy room. Can hear every word spoken in bar below. Like having a loud television on constantly until 11:00 at night. Impossible to relax or sleep in the room because of the incessant noise. Ruined our stay and we went home early.

Charming country character
Beautiful character building in a lovely rural location which is very convenient for Thruxton race circuit. Fantastic bar food, shame that they don't serve breakfast. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

Dreadful
A loud extractor fan probably kitchen based was on all night so sleep was impossible. Delivery drivers park under bedroom window from 6am and leave engines running. Room is tatty at best

Unique pub with rooms. It was what it appears to be in the photos. Lots of free parking. By a motorway but our room was very quiet. Spacious clean room.

great food, great beer, excellent and helpful staff , but , room is offered as bed only breakfast is not an option guest have to make their own arrangements offsite. Pity the landlord considered the main bar as his own private area for entertaining his friends. The guests hade to make do with a smaller counter. I spent many frustrating minutes queuing for service from the 1 bar person on duty, whilst the landlord continually came behind the bar to serve his friends ignoring the queuing guests. The White Horse has changed ownership since my 1st stay, which i rated 5/5. My latest rating would be 2/5 Food 5/5 Beer 5/5 Ambience 1/5 service 4/5

Dirty and poor condition
Could not stay there. Cleaning beds and linen and staff where lovely. But carpet stank, the bathroom looked 100 years old and I don't mean retro.... I mean disgustibg. air freshener everywhere and when I opened the windows it was above air conditioner exit vent. Forfeited the paid money and never used it. Disaster.

Very friendly helpful staff
The pub and staff were great. Pity they had stopped offering breakfast, as it was on the website when we were looking. Also, it must have been terrible when the flyover for the A 303 was built so close to the pub. Traffic passed all night only a few metres from our window.

The White Horse
Staff friendly on arrival & room was comfortable. However on our return we had reason to complain about our cooked breakfast not being available although at the time of booking this was included. I was asked to speak to the manager by telephone(?) & I found him to be rude & confrontational. I was offered a £10 refund which I accepted & we went to bed. Throughout the night a refrigerator unit was very audible below our room & doors were slammed in the early hours, which I accept the pub cannot control but perhaps polite notices asking guests to respect others staying. Will not be returning to The White Horse which is a shame as it is in a great location & pub is very charming inside.

Lovely country Pub
We stayed at the White Horse in order to visit the Hawk Conservency for Owl Night Flight experience. The pub had a peaceful friendly atmosphere. Reception at the bar was friendly and quick. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast freshly cooked with very tasty sausage and bacon. A very enjoyable stay. We would stay again

Nice spacious pub within touching distance of the A303, literary! The reason the pub's photo is not front on is that the A303 is right outside. I had a rear room and did not notice the traffic noise over the noise of the cellar refrigeration units. The room was OK for the price I paid. My biggest disappointment was that the restaurant was closed. Do check when booking, but I think this is a Monday night thing. Closest restaurant is 1.2 miles away at the The Hawk Inn, which also has rooms (but more pricey). Cooked breakfast was good. NB: The owner told me they only took over in June and had spent a lot on the kitchen. So things should improve

We had a very good stay. Ideal position for our purpose (visit to a nearby racehorse trainer). New owners very welcoming and helpful. Enjoyed food. Our room overlooked the garden and part car park; very quiet although slight fan noise. Enjoyed our short visit and would go again.

Our room was basic, as expected from a road-side inn, but clean. Friendly service and good cooked breakfast. The hotel is just next to a big road but we could barely hear any noise

Nice enough property and a convenient location. Did not know that the restaurant would be shut on Sunday and also bar is sometimes closed on a Sunday evening. The room was nice and comfortable and clean only downside was the shower could have been cleaner.

Handy stopover near the road so you wouldn't expect idyllic location. The owner and his staff were friendly and helpful. I chose the hotel based on location and reviews of the food and was certainly not disappointed for it was excellent. We were lucky to have arrived on "steak night" and these arrived cooked exactly as requested. The building was noisy through the night but I'd expect that in an old thatched inn and the bed was so comfortable that it didn't stop sleep.

GREAT HOTEL JUST OFF THE A303
My wife and I stayed here for one night en-route from Cornwall to Kent. The Hotel/Pub is situated just off the A303 (literally one minute off A303) with lots of parking available. On arrival, our room wasn't ready as a plumber was just finishing a repair but we were offered a free drink while we waited which was very nice. Our room was very comfortable with all the facilities one would expect and the wi-fi was good.. We didn't actually use the restaurant but the bar offered a wide variety of beers/ales and we spent an enjoyable evening chatting to some of the locals. The "olde world" charm of the hotel coupled with the friendliness of the proprietor and staff made for a really excellent overnight stay. Breakfast the following morning was really good and to be honest we were sorry to leave!

Excellent overnight stopover, well positioned near A303. In fact The White Horse is right beside the road but the old thatched inn has such thick walls and such thick thatch that we didn't hear any noise. Very friendly, smiling staff who make you feel welcome and valued among all the local customers who obviously enjoy the atmosphere as they turned out for a good dinner in spite of a day of heavy rain. Good breakfast, too, in an old-fashioned way of table service.

Good location for over night stay
Very warm greeting on arrival by staff. Breakfast was more than emough and owner very pleasent and friendly. The only fault was the shower room needed to be completely gutted and refitted. Mould all around shower and large crack in sink. This drops my mark from 10 /10 to a 7 / 10.

Rooms were small with no air conditioning, but the atmosphere of the place and the staff more than made for it. Had a wonderful time talking with staff and locals. I would most definitely stay there again.

Fantastic 16 Centry thatched cottage hotel !!
Really nice place with a great atmosphere, good food, bags of parking, easy access to rooms, very large garden, great selection of beers, nice locals, great staff. Lots to do in the area. Only bad point is that some idiot council builder allowed the road to pass quite close to the back, but, once inside you cannot hear it and it does not disturb your sleep.

Delightful old school pub and room experience
This is a wonderful old building but fully restored with most modern amenities--excellent wifi, nice bathrooms and showers, cable television. It is NOT a modern hotel and if that is what you are looking for then this isn't it. That said, this is a very comfortable, beautiful, well managed and maintained experience. There is a wonderful pub with restaurant downstairs with a small but truly friendly and competent staff. A family operation and it is immediately obvious everyone working there loves their job and will do all they can to make your experience a great one. The building is an old thatched roof inn dating back in some parts to the 16th century, but I would depict it as a fairly 18th-19th century structure. The grounds are beautiful and there is plenty of parking. It is right up against a raised "A" highway but traffic noise is not a problem. The food is great. The rooms are well maintained and pretty much modern but have a rustic feel to them. Low ceilings because this building is centuries old. The price was unbelievable--I could not believe we were getting this fantastic experience for such a moderate amount.
