“Not the greatest”
We were there on a rather warm day. There is no air conditioning in rooms and when we arrived late afternoon, the sun was streaming into our room, making it uncomfortably warm. There are no screens on windows and no way to circulate air. My sister's room was right over parking lot, so she couldn't open her window due to the noise and security. There was a large reception going on, so the makeshift restaurant was very slow on service. Food was mediocre and my dinner wasn't what I ordered, but not worth returning due to the long wait.
“The friendliest staff”
This is a grand country house, stunning from the outside but first impressions inside are not good. Reception is tucked away under the stairs and reminiscent of a 1960's guest house. However service was efficient, cold, but efficient. We were assigned a room in the more modern extension - upstairs, along a corridor, down stairs, along another corridor. Our room was small, a bit dark, a bit dated but OK. However when we turned the light on in the bathroom the extractor fan sounded like a jet taking off. We quickly turned the light out but the fan and noise continued. Eventually we telephoned reception and asked to be moved. We were shown a lake-view room in the old house and warned about potential noise from a function the following night. As we were attending the function this did not seem important. Again reception staff had been coldly efficient. This room had much grander proportions with a high ceiling and lovely views. During the course of our stay we spoke to three managers and several restaurant and housekeeping staff. Everyone of them was friendly, helpful and hard working. The food in the restaurant was very well cooked and presented - we would heartily recommend it. By our second day the Botleigh Grange had grown on us.We were happy to accept its foibles and signs of age and felt we were staying with friends.
“Not very impressed”
Old Hotel due for some maintenace, staff not very helpful, food okay
“Would definately go back”
We were just coming off of a long cruise and spending only one night before going on to London. Arriving very early in the morning, the desk attendant was still able to find a room available immediately and we were able to have our same taxi driver return us into town to catch a ferry to the Isle of White. If you have the time, do do there, it is wonderful. We found the room to be very comfortable, clean and surprisingly quiet. There was some large affair going on downstairs but we never heard anything in our room. The setting is somewhat out if the country but there are no better choices that we saw. The Inn is so charming that we would have preferred it anyway. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We ordered a light evening meal and it was excellent in both preparation and presentation. We would gladly return.
“You have been warned”
Rooms are not sound proof and I was disturbed in the night by a training session in the reception area. A promise was made to move me, but the room to which I was moving had not been cleaned, thus I lost half a day of my vacation. The hotel itself is becoming somewhat run down and certainly is not 4 stars. Dirty shower with handle missing from the tap. Cigarette butts scattered on the balcony outside the window (non smoking room)
“"one of the best"”
great hotel to stay at, very clean and staff very helpful. I had my 13 month old grandson with us, the hotel had no issue with us bringing own travel cot and even made scrambled eggs for him in the morning. Plenty clean towels and tea/coffee in room was all fresh. The only complaint was room was very warm (admittedly it was October and weather was unusually warm). I would recommend this hotel to my friends. There is easy access to Southampton and Portsmouth as the motorway is only 5 minutes away.
“What a gem ! New owners have created a wonderful experience -- great restaurant.”
When we first made our reservations we were a somewhat concerned based on reviews at TripAdvisor. However, when arrived we instantly found that was the old story. The owners have refurbished the facility to give the feeling of a country estate. The staff was most helpful and very cheery (or is that just the Brit way). We stayed for several days prior to boarding a cruiser in Southampton. It is about a 20 minute walk to a train station in Hedge End and we used the trains to day trip to Bath, Stonehenge, Salsbury, and Winchester. The grounds give you that feeling of country with cows and horse, a lake, large green area with trees. What wonderful stay !
“Impressed”
The room was a very generous size, the clerk at the desk was very helpful and the wait staff very pleasant. All staff were very friendly. The outlook of the hotel was very pleasant- with generous grounds. The evening walk to the lake made the evening feel very relaxing. A most enjoyable stay.
“Lovely botley grange”
On arrival the reception staf were friendly & helpful. The room was spacious & well equipped all staff in the resturant & bar wre courtious & caring.
“So peaceful and friendly”
Really enjoyed another stay here. It may not be the smartest on offer the most facilties but it has everything I need and a great spa. The free internet access is great and the staff friendly.
