Nice old house...shame about the rest

Posted 20-Feb-2015
Pros: Leaving...I booked in for 2 nights but had to leave after the first night and booked into a premier inn at Southampton airport.
Cons: Demolish and start again.
Location: I get the reason for the design with the listed building, but don,t use this as an excuse for crap rooms. This is an opportunity. Invest!
Very disappointing. The booking page looks really good. Have stayed with this chain before but not at this location...will not be returning...ever. This is like a 60's holiday camp. The rooms open to the outside in long rows. Really thin walls. The pillows smell. The floor is filthy.parking was a mare. Disgusting hotel.

Nice situation

Posted 08-Feb-2015
Pros: A nice location, in its own grounds with some good facilities.
Cons: I think that the housekeeping staff forgot to vacuum the floor in the room that I had, as it was not as clean as I believe that it should have been.
Location: I enjoyed being able to walk around the ground and the quiet location. I suspect that guests with children might not find this to their liking.
Restaurant was not used - so no comment. Reception staff helpful and the nearby coffee lounge was very useful and well provisioned. Swimming pool was good but you could be in a room where it was necessary to go outside to another building to access this.

What a lovely place!!

There's not many hotels that after checking in you have to drive to find your room! Parking was a challenge as the place was very busy. Room was warm and welcoming. The spa was great. Bar is madly expensive so be aware!!

Lovely let down...

Posted 27-Jan-2015
Amazing historic building steeped in history, sadly tired not chic. The restaurant and food fantastic. The rooms were adequate size although no drawers or bag storage, well heated. Bathroom was good size but no bath and shower door was dodgy and shower head was squinting every where but where it was supposed to, and bathroom was dirty. Requested a feather pillow that never materialised. Still had a great weekend but would not return. Shame as it could be such an amazing place.

In converted stable above a swimming poole

Posted 24-Jan-2015
Gave the impression of a staying in the manor house, but in a converted stable above a swimming pool so room smelt of swimming pool, gave the impression of being a newly fitted with the name new velve, a travel lodge/premium inn cleaner and more modern and cheaper, the room was not vacuum to the edges, the bath was not cleaned out properly. The restaurant was fully booked. The bar only had about 30 seats and not accommodate for eating in seating and table arrangements .there for had no choice to eat in room. The description said that 36 acres of land more like 3.6, I would pay travel lodge prices plus a little bit more for fitness centres

Very grand on entrance.......

Posted 23-Jan-2015
Very grand building when you first turn into the venue. Sadly the room let the venue down. Very dirty, very tired, not at all relaxing as noise in the room was terrible. Hotel staff on the other hand were very helpful, it is a shame that not more attention is paid to the comments about the rooms, as it could be a very nice place to stay.

Nice concept but a bit tired!

Posted 05-Jan-2015
Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. Our room was clean and modern, but the rooms have thin walls. We had neighbors who were constantly in and out of their room so all we heard all night was the door slamming closed, or light switches. We went to the dining room for dinner which lacked ambiance but the food was excellent value for money. The only problem in the restaurant was the level of service from the staff. For example we ordered wine which was dumped on our table and we were left to pour it ourselves. The table next to us didn't get theirs as 2 of the 3 staff couldn't find it. It seemed wait staff were generally out of their depth, confused over tables and orders respectively. This hotel caters well for large groups or as a stop gap on a long journey but for a romantic get away I wouldn't recommend it.

A stunning setting. Hotel staff were really welcoming. The room was lovely; clean and comfortable. Menu was reasonably priced but we didn't get chance to try anything. Free wifi!! I would unhesitatingly recommend and book again. Better than a recent 5* stay!!
