nice place not 5 star but adequate

Posted 10-Aug-2014
Location: the little town of Wickham was lovely, great pub lovely little shops very quaint.
we were looking for a hotel to stay after dropping our son at Portsmouth and this was the only on left on the Saturday! De Vere has a good name but after reading some of the reviews we were a little worried, however upon arrival we we impressed with the look of the main hall. There was a wedding party boooking in and we also wondered if that might effect the level of service provided. There is nowhere clsoe to go to eat so we booked a table in the restaurant. Had a drink in the bar first (no cocktails avaialable!) The tabel and service was good. Food was very good and great value. We both enjoyed our meal would recommend eatign here again. Room was on the small side, shower only. Fan to keep heat down (problem mentioned by others who have stayed here) There was a little of a "motel" feel about the accomodation but saying that we would stay here again.

Good Hotel in lovely country surroundings

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: Location, facilities and relaxed atmosphere.
Cons: Check-In was a little slow followed by the key not working, so back & forward to reception.
Location: didn't get the chance, but beaches at Bournemouth an hour away, New forest 45 minutes & Portsmouth & Southampton close by. Close to good walks
Good facilities, such as Leisure centre, sauna, Swimming pool, all of which I didn't get the opportunity to use as I was only staying 1 night! Good choice of types of breakfast, slight mix up as I got tea when I ordered coffee and I couldn't originally get into the building where my room was as the key didn't work! overall a good experience & I would certainly go back for a longer stay.

De Vere Southampton

Posted 27-Jul-2014
Pros: The hotel was in nice grounds.
Cons: Have one or two bedrooms in the main house. Would be a lot nice to be able to stay in there a night. Air con in the room.
Was ok. Room was to hot. Some staff didn't speak English well

Lovely place if u stay in the main house. We stayed in the outer houses not as good. Bar and food very over priced. But lovely little pub down the road.

Poor standard for the price.

Posted 03-Jul-2014
The hotel was average with blocks of rooms in the grounds of the manor house. The gym and health club were tired. Restaurant host also began serving eggs at the breakfast counter with long hair dangling close to the food. For 120 pounds, the overall standard was poor. Wouldn't use the hotel again. It felt like centre parks!!!

Beautiful hotel and grounds

Posted 31-May-2014
Pros: Breakfast in the main house was a lovely treat. Everything was very pleasing.
Cons: For the lights to be turned off in the hallway at night. Had to use a towel to block it from under the door way
Location: This wasn't relevant for my stay
Fantastic on Line offer found for last min. work reschedule. Beautiful hotel and grounds. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I used the swimming pool and Sauna. Very clean. Stayed in a single room, it was small/cosy, but had everything I needed for a comfy sleep.

Did not make it as missed the ferry from France ,

Posted 29-May-2014
Cons: They could charge a small administration fee in such circumstances
Sadly they charged a lot of money for nothing as we missed the ferry from France after a very stressful experience , we telephoned them as soon as we missed the ferry , five or more hours before we should have arrived , so they got a lot of money from us for absolutely nothing !!! . I know there are rules regarding cancellations but think the cost was very harsh , we had to then pay for alternative accommodation !!

Nice hotel let down by food and service

Posted 27-May-2014 on Hotels.com
Stayed here many times on business but the standard seems to have slipped recently. The room service food was extremely poor for the money, overlooked yet cold! The staff were generally very good but one person in particular was curt and abrupt, verging on rude. Rooms weren't particularly clean with last nights room service food left outside my room the next day (a full 24 hours later). The hotel was always convenient for its location and value but i'm now going to have to rethink my future stays in the area.

More than a Hotel!

Posted 21-May-2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is fascinating, from the main building to the fact it used to be a conference and training centre. All of it's past is put to good use now, the woodland walk was an excellent start to the day, breakfast in the Bristol Room felt marvellous and the leisure facilities were very welcome after a long drive. Due to its location, eating at the hotel is a popular choice, I ended up with room service as the bar was full!!
