“Clean,Quiet qnd Convient !!”

Very clean and very well located to the main part of the city! Easy walkto restaurants etc. Room was pleasant and very quiet. Bathrooms had to be shared but not a problem. Sink for washing up was located inthe bedroom. Breakfast was home cooked and very adaquate... Several choices and great portions. Lady of the house was very pleasant and helpful!!!

“OK overall”

Generally OK. Good location, close to the centre of Southampton. However, we had a very small room, albeit with en-suite. There was not really enough space for the furniture (i.e. Bed), our cases, and 2 of us. Parking was on the street - OK for out overnight stop, but an issue for a longer stay.

“Fairly good stay here.”

This is a two story B-and-B type guest house in an old neighborhood of Southampton. There are several others like it on the same block. No elevator. We had trouble sleeping, being either too hot with the thick coverlet or too cold because of air temperature. Breakfast was ample and well-prepared. It was probably worth the price.

“Very clean and comfortable”

Very clean and comfortable home style hotel. Modern bed and breakfast type. If you don't mind the bathroom and toilet not in the room, this hotel is superb. Nice decor, clean and comfort bed. has wash basin and coffee making facilities in the room too. Great for short stay especially for people coming to Southampton for the cruise ships. We stayed for one night before we boarded the cruise ship. Handy location, only cost a few pounds for Taxi from the Southampton central station. and not far from the City Cruise terminal either. where we boarded our cruise ship, about 5 pounds for taxi. Lovely hot full breakfast was served in a cosy restaurant. Hotel manager was very friendly, wi-fi was free too. Good value.

“Would use again”

Hotel required prior to joining a cruise, the Argyle served the purpose and was also convenient for Southampton city centre for dinner and pre embarkation shopping.

“Hands up who loves hard - rock hard - beds?”

As I have already informed tripadvisor this is not a place I would ever want to stay again. 1. The landlady took ages to answer the locked door (it was about 6pm) and it was raining hard. 2. I asked for a room in a quiet spot so we were next to the dining room! 3. As I sat on the bed - sat not lying down - the base rose up to meet me - rapidly therefore I had very little sleep both nights. 4. There were no tissues in the room. 5. There were no serviettes in the dining room. 6. The room was naturally dark anyway so to add to the ambience there was some kind of strange dark blue plastic stuff on the walls like you would see in a kitchen and the ceiling lighting was totally unable to counteract the darkness. 6. At some time a bulb in the ceiling must have blown and it had been tastefully replaced by a BLUE bulb. 7. There was rust and the beginnings of mildew in the shower cubicle. 8. When we arrived back at the Lodge after being out for the evening we had no electricity except the ceiling lights, therefore, we were unable to make a hot drink, read in bed or go to the bathroom without a torch. Apparently a guest had blown a fuse or something or so we were told the next morning. 9. At breakfast the yolks on my poached eggs were hard, the butter and jams (except the blackcurrant jam) were tasteless and the bread had a strange texture as if it had been made partially with semolina.

“Friendly guest house”

As the excellent breakfast was served in a fairly small dining room, the ambience was very friendly. Overall, a friendly, well run guest house. A good base for visiting family, many used Argyle Lodge on the way to cruises etc

“Good place to stay pre cruise”

The guest house was well located and an easy walk into Southampton for shopping and eating. The room was comfortable and clean including the bathroom. Breakfast was very good and I would highly recommend for either a visit to Southampton or as a pre or post cruise stopover. The only issue might be parking during the week as there are restrictions and not much free parking in front of the guest house.

Getting around
It's easy to walk into town from the guest house although Ocean Village was quite a long trek. There is plenty of shopping and places to eat paricularly around Oxford Street.

“"Can't miss on this B/B"”

Great room for the price! Best value in town. We had breakfast with several businessmen from other parts of England. We now know why visiting locals use this hotel. Should tell you something about the quality when its used by locals. Enjoyed talking with other guests from both the US, UK and Mexico during breakfast. Quick check-in and easy check-out. Cab called upon request in the morning.

Area recommendations
Visit the Southhampton Maritime Museum, especially the Titantic exhibit. The Duke of Wellington Pub serves a great lunch in the oldest building in town. Built in 1694, I think.
