The NH hotel was very nice. It has very friendly and helpful staff. It is in between 2 underground stations which follow different paths to the city centre. The hotel breakfast is a buffet and is far too overpriced to eat at - but the pub next door sells breakfast as well as Mayer Cafe towards the U3 from Thursday to Sunday.There is also a very good Italian restaurant down the street at the corner.
The room had a bedroom and a separate lounge with a bar with kettle and microwave and fridge, and sofa and large desk and tv. There is also a tv in the bedroom, a separate wardrobe/ sink room and a separate wc bath/shower room.
We had difficulty with our key cards deactivating regularly, possibly from having in pockets too near mobile phones. This was easy to reset at the desk. The staff were very helpful. We also pre purchased a wonderful US style 'riverboat' boat tour of the harbour from the reception which saved a few euros. It is winter and the tour was in German (which I struggled with a bit - but the views are great qnd the large boat was comfortable, complete with food/bar service. I suspect there are English boat tours at certain times of the day or more in the summer but possibly on different styles of boats.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Hamburg and our stay in this hotel. The Weihnachts markets are everywhere at this time in December and the city with great museums and shopping is vibrant and picturesque.
Location,staff and room excellent. Small faults,romm heating did not have manual overide and the room became uncomfortable during the night. Breakfast too expensive although there were plenty of local alternatives.
