I'm always nervous of 3* hotels. They are in the middle ground where then can be very basic and really quite poor, or the opposite.
I'm pleased to say that Le Friquet exceeded all expectations.
The hotel is an old hotel, you get that sense from the moment you walk in, but whilst the layout and fabric feel a little like yesteryear, the room and all public areas have been refurbished and are in excellent condition.
It was quite nice to stay in an old layout room, no bathroom on the right as you walk in with cupboards on left. This was a room with a large big bed, bathroom with huge rainshower shower set within a modern bathroom. The bed was large very comfortable with 4 large pillows. Old solid wardrobe, desk and flat screen TV.
Ok so the stairs creaked but that added to the charm. I didnt hear a squeak from anywhere in the hotel or neighbouring rooms.
The bar and restaurant have been recently refurbished and are absolutely stunning, with a large fresh lobster tank centre stage and service, staff, and food to match. A real natural feel, with cork and wood walk done in a very stylish way... You would think you were in a leading restaurant or at least a 4* hotel.
Best of all the staff live up to all the refurbishments. They couldn't be more helpful. We had a few requests due to the times we were working and nothing was too much trouble, including ordering food to be delivered to us due to the restaurant being closed when we returned.
Will be returning!
