I stayed at Victory Hotel two weeks ago, our room was very very clean, was cleaned it two or three times per day, breakfast just amazing (fruits, bread, eggs, coffee) all u can eat, localization 10 more minutes by walking, not many things to do in the neighborhood.
The staff bent over backwards to make us happy!! We first had a smoking room, so we had to move out of that one, although the floor plan and view were Great! (clean and roomy bathroom). But after moving and using the new room it smelled like sewer. So they agreed to move us again!! We were SO happy to get another chance and the room we got was awesome!! So for that we were Very grateful!!
We have a hard time wherever we go because we are vegetarian. But with the super great interpreter Susie hired named Amanda, we had no trouble understanding what was the food made out of. Also Amanda helped us locate vegi restaurants and shopping areas in the city.
I guess we are a bit demanding, but all our needs were met and we were very happy with our stay at this hotel. It was well worth the money!!

As long as expectations are kept in check (i.e. taking into consideration the price I paid for this hotel during the Canton Fair), it is a really decent place to spend a few days.
*The location is REALLY central.. less than 5 mins walk from a metro station and barely 10 mins walk to the Tiyu Xilu station too. Rooms are fairly spacious and clean, wifi is good (and free). Also, there are a lot of restaurants nearby to grab a bite.
The cons: The staff really had a problem communicating in English (which, on a side note, is a universal issue in China anyways, unless you're at the Four Seasons! Eg. Even at the Grand Hyatt's restaurant, our waitress could barely take our order, so that says it all). Also, the bathrooms could really use a shower cubicle or something, it's all over the place.

In the centre of Guangzhou, the Tiyu Xilu and Zhujiang New Town subways are both 10 mins walk away in either direction. Got to the hotel by subway from the airport to Tiyu Xilu.There are loads of the best shopping malls in Guangzhou (Teemall and Grandview and Onelink Mall) open til late near Tiyu (West) Xilu and Tiyu (East) Donglu.They house all the action (10 yuan by cab or walk it). Theres many types of diff cuisines close by. Cabs stop right in front of the hotel and it took us 10 minutes and 24 yuan to get to the Pazhou Canton Fair, although the subway is just as easy to take, costing us 6 yuan.
The hotel has 24 hour 7-Eleven and Family Marts downstairs, as well as an absolutely fantastic, highly recommended western bar/restaurant called Covent Garden in the square of a set of the apartments that took us back to London! We went there regularly.
The rooms in this hotel are very spacious and clean. Bathrooms are a great size, kitchenettes have washing machines, fridge and microwaves. Internet connectivity in the room is free and great. There is a big sofabed that we lazed around in. Few different english channels on tv. very comfortable bed.
Drawbacks are the pillows, too soft or thin. Its hard to communicate with staff, we used the Google Translate app. They charge 30 yuan a day for plates and cutlery. Apart from that we were very happy with the room rate and location and are staying there again when we return to Guangzhou in a few days time!
