“Watch Out for the Extra Charges”

I have stayed in this hotel once before, and was perfectly happy. This year I rebooked through expedia and encountered 2 major problems. firstly and least important the beds were extremely hard, so much so that I got out of bed to check that their was a mattress on the bed, thinking there may have just been a boottom mattres. Secondly and most importantly, I had booked a room with breakfast included, which was confirmed on my reservation from expedia. However, the hotel refused to honour this stating that the rate booked did not include breakfast and that a charged would be made seperately. After 25 minutes of arguing with several front desk staff, they relented and honoured the rate wth breafast. However, the manner that this was dealt with was rude, aggressive, and not what you would expect from such a highly rated expedia hotel. I will not rebook this hotel, I will also look to expedia for an explanation why they would not accept my booking despite showing them the confirmation in black and white.

Area recommendations

Guangzhou is a vast city, but I would always stay around this area, adjacent to the Garden Hotel or Baiyun Hotel, because of the availability of restaurants and bars. These all seem of a reasonable quality compared to some others in the city. It is also a short taxi ride from shopping areas such as Beijing road, and also the Pearl river area.

Shopping

Beijing Road is a hive of activity. For bargains look in the many arcades along the road, where the small stalls sell fashions, bags, electrics at low prices. Be prepared to haggle.

“Good location”

Good hotel, convenient location but have to check if they do any maintenance when you want to book it.Was very noisy, drilling and hammmering - general repairings of hotel.Customer service still poor, but they improve altely. Went there 3 times in last 3 months, very convenient location- so this is one of the main point. The gym and swimming pool are ok too.Not really a four star hotel but acceptable.

“In that area i will choose another hotel for the next time”

My first time in Guangzhou was at 2004, i stayed in Baiyun hotel, it was a good experience, from 2005 to 2010 i went to another hotels in the area much better and cheaper. At the check in they give me a smoking room becouse they don´t have more NON-SMOKING ROOM and we booked a non-smoking. after discuss with the manager more than 1 hour he make an upgrade to another room. The hotel need a remodelation in the rooms.

“This hotel has strange regulations”

This hotel doesn't allow customers to visit the guest's room after 11:00PM. If the guest can not finish the meeting with his customers in the room, his customers have to leave the room at 11:00PM stopping the meeting. If the guest has to meet his customers after 11:00PM in his room due to insufficent time, the hotel doesn't offer any flexibility so the guest has to give us his meeting. This rule is very strange and not seen in other hotels. The service of this hotel is very slow and too rigid, guests don't feel much convenience from the rules/service of this hotel.

“Returning in the Spring!!”

I found the Hotel to be very clean and the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I was pleasently suprised at the number of the staff that spoke very good English. The breakfast buffet is amazing, suitable for vegaterians or meat lovers. There is a world class mall conected by indoor walkway, that can take you almost a block from the hotel and past many fine restaruants from all over the world.

When to go

The hotel pool closes in November, so if you want to swim go earlier in the year.

What to pack

The weather in Guangzhou is sub-tropical, a lite jacket is all that will be needed. However if you are traveling through Beijing December take a heavey coat.

Shopping

World class malls in walking distance from the hotel. Local street shops within a 10 minute walk and the largest shopping street I have ever seen just a 10 minute cab ride from the hotel.

Nightlife

Take one of the many river cruises. There are sightseeing and dinner cruises. The city at night is amazing......it seems the whole city is lit.

“Great Hotel”

“Good Location and Pricing”

Value for money at a city centre location , but the rooms looked sparce and lighting ambiance could be improved with some lamps , as often the case a very hard bed . Breakfast above average
