“We would stay here again.”

The hotel courtyard was nicely landscaped and the bougainvillea were beautiful, they attracted both butterflies and hummingbirds. Art works by local artists were placed throughout the hotel. The hotel staff were great and patient with our Spanish. Some of the staff spoke English well which helped. The room was very nicely decorated and furnished. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the overhead fan provided sufficient cooling. The continental breakfast was excellent and the other breakfast menu was also quite good. We were especially impressed by Abraham, who was our waiter and went out of his way to suggest places to eat, provide directions and help us with our Spanish. He was always ready with a smile and eager to improve his English. Overall we were very impressed with Hotel El Santuario Centro and would recommend it to anyone who desired a quiet, comfortable and clean place to stay while in San Miguel de Allende. Hotel was approximately 3 blocks or a 10 minute walk to the central plaza, El Jardin.

Area recommendations
The central portion of San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful Mexican city with interesting architecture and a great plaza - El Jardin where there is plenty of shaded seating to watch people and relax. Many evenings there is music at the plaza. Within the central city there are many shops featuring art, jewelry and Mexican craftwork. There are many excellent restaurants offering all types of cuisine. We especially enjoyed our visit to El Charco, the botanical garden where we were able to see many of the local trees and cacti and learn more about them. There was excellent bird watching as well.
Getting there
We liked being able to fly into Leon and then take a paid shuttle to San Miguel which was about an hour and a half ride. The airport is small and easy to move through.
Getting around
Taxis were the most available mode of transportation and were very reasonably priced. It is helpful to know some basic Spanish so that you can tell the driver your destination and ask the fare when you arrive.
Other
There are several banks near the El Jardin that will cash your traveller's checks or convert your American dollars. You will need your passport.

“Loved it”

The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The courtyard and all the decorations were so peaceful and beautiful- much more so than the photos online. The location was great- a few minute walk from the center of town and in a very safe area. The staff was so helpful and attentive- this really made the stay wonderful. Breakfast was great and all of the room accommodations were on par with what I was expecting. The only thing which was a bit of a hassle was that there is no filtered water at the hotel, so brushing your teeth needed to be done with bottled water. The hotel provided us with as many bottles as we needed, however, which was very convenient.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the main city center where all the churches are located and where the artisan's market is located.
Shopping
You must go to the artisan's market!
Dining
Beware of getting sick. Almost everyone in my party was ill from food during the trip and we all were very careful. The only place where no one got sick was "Harry's New Orleáns Café & Oyster Bar". It was fantastic food.

“Its convenient, but expensive”

The hotel was as promised; the online reviews were warned about the included breakfast, but we found that the hotel was very willing to serve us what we wanted for breakfast. They were also helpful in arranging cabs, tours, etc. We might now stay there again, beecause there are other places just as nice (or nicer) that give a bit more value for the buck; however, it was very centrally located and close to all of the wedding-related activities we particpated in that weekend. The staff were VERY helpful.

“Overpriced and underserved”

Surroundings are beautiful, has a great potential, but no caring hand... Fountain is not working, restaurant is closed - looks like forever, dirty spots on the carpet, water does not drain properly. Breakfast deserves a special note. They started "serving" at 8:30 instead of 8:00 as we were told at check-in. It was served by the recptionist herself who did not speak a word of English. Although there was a loud cooking noise coming fron kitchen - after waiting 10 minutes we were given a cup of coffee, another ten minuts later - a glass of juice, yet another 10 minuts - 2 burnt pieces of toast with 2 pieces of butter arrived, another 5 min - after a special request - milk for coffee arrived... Way overpriced for such a service.

“Hotel was very quiet, friendly and extremely convenient.”

The only compliant I have is the same one I read on reviews prior to my stay. The restaurant was hardly ever open but it worked out fine since there are great places to eat within a 5 min walk from the hotel. Unknown to me but this hotel was on the "quiet side" of the square area and while noise reigned supreme a mere few blocks from the hotel, within the confines of the courtyard and our room we never heard a thing in the evening - or even the afternoon. We would stay again...and again.

Area recommendations
The entire old town is worth exploring but be prepared to get a workout on the hills and cobblestones. better than cardio at the gym and far more picturesque.

“Great location, other than that mediocre”

Location was great however the continental breakfast left much to be desired. Basically O.J. and toast. Everytime we asked about the sweet bread we were lied to and told they ran out (even though we were the first one's there)or it was "on it's way" but never arrived. The hotel had a restaurant but it never seemed to be open? Other than the little "white lies" from the guy at the front desk the hotel was very clean, very quiet and like I mentioned before, a great location. Good value for the money.

Traveller's tip
Don't rely on the continental breakfast.

“Disappointed”

Definately not 3.5 starts. Stained wall to wall carpet in the Presidential Suite - need I say more! Hotels in this artist community are very decorative, artistic, and stylish. Standards need to be raised to be successful in SMA. I would give it a 2.5 at best.
