Great location and a comfortable room

Posted 28-Apr-2014
Pros: Location and views.
Location: Wonderful views - walks along the beach and to the Pancake Rocks
With a wonderful view over the sea, our room was as comfortable and convenient as we could have wished for. We also enjoyed meals in the restaurant. A relaxing place in which to enjoy the beauties of the West Coast.

Perfect location

Posted 26-Apr-2014
Pros: Location and cleanliness
Cons: Cooked breakfast selection and keeping it hot.
Location: Perfect base to explore walking tracks, pancake rocks and rest of west coast
This hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the west coast. It's centrally located in Punakaiki and just a short walk to the pancake rocks attraction. Our room was very clean and warm but the beds were quite soft so we're glad we only stayed two nights. It was great to have a restaurant on site and whilst it was quite pricey, it was to be expected seeing as it's the only place open at night. Breakfast, however, was quite disappointing. The cooked breakfast was overdone and virtually cold. We ate at 8.30 and service was till 10 so it wasn't as if we were late. The variety for continental breakfast was good. Overall though this is a great hotel for a short break or overnight stay.

Great Location and Restaurant

Posted 22-Apr-2014
We had a great stay here for one night in an Eco Villa. Room was large with a great high level view. These rooms are separated from the main hotel area (reception, restaurant, bar etc) by the main road, but there is a pedestrian tunnel underneath the road which makes access easier. Could be annoying in the winter months to be further away. The location is fantastic right next to the Pancake Rocks, and on the beach where you can walk right up to some pancake rocks. We had dinner in the restaurant which was better than we expected. Beautiful food. We also were offered to dine in the bar area because they had a very large bus group in the main dining room. This was great as it was much quieter and cosier for us. The bar area was great for pre-dinner drinks with a great view over the beach. Also used the laundry facilities which was great to have, maybe a little on the expensive side. There was a little confusion with the staff about breakfast. When we checked in we were told that we could have breakfast - buffet or off the menu - ranging from $10 to $30. When we arrived for breakfast we were told we could have the continental buffet, or the full buffet. I asked whether there was another menu but the staff member didnt seem to know about this - or it was being re-written - it was unclear. She didn't seem to understand what I was actually asking for though, so reiterated the buffet options. We ended up having a buffet - still not sure if they have a separate menu!

Hotel on the Beach

Posted 20-Feb-2014
This hotel is located close to Pancake Rocks, which is the main attraction in Punakaki. It was the only accommodation in the area that had a restaurant. The food at the restaurant was delicious and the staff friendly. This hotel is a good choice.

Romantic quiet getaway

Posted 30-Oct-2013
Pros: The location was perfect for our planned getaway. See details above
Cons: Restaurant could have more selection of Kiwi food. Local foods would have been great
Location: Loved the location. Spent time walking the beach, visiting the nearby Punakaiki rocks and Cafes.
Wanted a quiet getaway and that's what we received. Found the Hotel eco room to be well located back from the road and elevated to give an amazing view of the beach. Access to the main building was via a very well maintained walkway leading under the main road. The Bar and Restaurant had a great view to the ocean and close to the beach so you really felt you were on the beach without actually being outside. Meal was excellent. Recommend this hotel to all

Excellent hotel on the beach

Posted 04-May-2013
Pros: Location
Cons: There was no other place to eat without a car.
Location: Pancake rocks and blow holes, horse trekking, walking on the beach.
The hotel was right on the beach about 500 meters from pancake rocks. The room was great, plenty of room, excellent views of the beach, bathroom big, small kitchen area. The room was quiet. The staff was very helpful.
