    “Home away from home”

From check in to check out the experience was simply fantastic. The staff were well mannered, courteous and went out of their way to make our experience one never to forget. The staff were proactive in anticipating our needs. Swimming on the beach is a must as the crystal clear extremely calm waters are the best I have seen in the Caribbean. The restaurant carried a delicious menu and the lambi (sea conch) was quite a treat. The portions were very generous. The hotel is a bit out of the way and a car is mandatory. You do need to get proper directions to the hotel before venturing out on your journey. You get what you pay for and the hotel can do with some repairs. The ac unit located in the bedroom can comfortably cool the entire unit and the bedroom door should be left open. The mini kitchen was well equipped with the basic utensils.

    Area recommendations
A visit to the capital St. Georges, and shopping in the Cruise Ship complex should be included in your plans. In the capital of the island there are few people walking about with cell phones or texting. That was refreshing as it seems the people are not caught up in the mad frenzy of capitalism, yet. The islanders are the friendliest and you can get many very inexpensive souvenirs to take back home.

“A nice reasonably priced beach hotel”

Pros: great beach, two good resturants, great beach bar, friendly and helpful staff, large room with two bedrooms, kitchen and sitting room, walking distance to Gran Anse beach, walking distance to grocery store (cab back with groceries) Cons: works best with a car to sample off-site restaurants (cabs get expensive and walking a mile from the bus stop in the dark is not for the faint of heart - but driving is not for the faint of heart either), kitchen furnishings a bit sparse (bring condiments/paper towels from home), ocean view room a must, minimal TV (BBC and NY ABC)

    Area recommendations
need to take a tour of the island - 1 day on the north and a second day on the south (we did it ourselves since we had a car but a guide might be better), one day in St George (fort, museum, markets, street walking), one day snorkling on a dive-boat, one or two days hanging out at the beach and talking with the locals - wonderful people

“Was ok but wouldn't go back”

It was difficult to find the hotel especially as we had gotten a ride from a friend who had rented the car and it was hard to find in the night. The road was also narrow and bumpy. On arrival we were waiting for the couple who were checking in before us then all of sudden they took people who came in after us, kind of felt like they gave preference to them, i don't know. All in all it was an ok stay but too out of the way unless you have your own rental car and the taxi that the hotel called for us overcharged us cause we decided to walk out and get a taxi and it was way cheaper! Won't be going back to this hotel.

“Very good value place to stay”

Gem Resort is great value for money. Its not fancy and the rooms are a bit dated, but for the price what can you expect? Its clean and the service is warm and friendly. Its also located on a fabulous beach which is much nicer and quieter than Grand Anse. If you're arriving in a hire car it can be a bit difficult to find as there are very few signs. Ask for more detailed directions. I'd definitely recommend a stay here if all you want is somewhere clean, friendly and welcoming in a great location.

    Area recommendations
The beach near the hotel is great. St George's is well worth a visit-make sure you go to the fort and admire the views. Avoid other tourist locations when there's a cruise ship in town. They become completely spoilt!
    Dining
La Boulangerie in Grand Anse is definitely worth visiting for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It serves great coffee, sandwiches and good value home made pasta dishes.

“relaxing and off the beaten track”

We had a spacious apartment with a lovely balcony looking over the beach. The welcome was very friendly and helpful. Reception were always ready to help with queries. The apartment was clean and well equipped though a little worn. The air conditioning was needed. The restaurant has a small and basic menu with lots of fresh fish. There is a good choice of restaurants on Grand Anse beach only a short walk away. The hotel is off the bus route of the splendid mini bus service around the island and a walk of about 15minutes to the shopping mall, banks and buses at Grand Anse. Taxis are readily available but not cheap. The beach was fantastic, very sheltered and empty. We were able to use the swimming pool of the neighbouring hotel.

    Area recommendations
Go to the East side of the island. It is green and lush compared with the west coast. The drought is beginning to affect them quite hard.
    Getting around
Use the minibuses. They will toot you wherever you go and are very cheap. You will need EC dollars.

    “Ottimo albergo”

Ci tornerei sicuramente.
