“I am positive about this hotel”

I stayed in adjacent Coyaba for a week and I could not get extension so I booked the next door Allamanda at 40% of the price of Coyaba. To my surprise everything is quite same except these things: No attached restaurants managed traditionally. No Gift shops. No beach sports management. No Tennis Courts. No fitness room. The surrounded garden can be rated as 60% quality compared to Coyaba. But all these are at quite low price on the same beach front. The hotel is quite empty and I beleive that is the reason the management unable to put more staff. The environment looks quite dull because of not many guests. The staff I met just two people and they are okay. I lost my room key and the staff said "Don't worry we will replace" though the rule book says $50 for a lost keys. The attached Lebanese restaurant food is very good and not pricey. I liked it. The rooms are okay for the price we pay.

“Not too bad, a little overpriced”

The Allamanda is a solid 3-star hotel. It's clean, safe, the customer service is kind and beach access is great, because the beach is gorgeous. The hotel is located across the Spiceland Mall, which is very convenient for picking up water, grocery items, etc. The rooms are clean but pretty bare-bones: my room smelled a little musty when I first walked in; my coffee maker didn't work, nor did the remote control to my television. The air conditioner in my room started leaking in the middle of the night during the first night, which woke me up - kind of annoying, but I requested that it be repaired and they attended to it the next day. The restaurant on-site is pretty good and the waitstaff are helpful, but the meals are a little over-priced. I guess that's to be expected for the Caribbean. Just as a general FYI, cabs in Grenada are super expensive!

“Adequate accomodations”

The on-site restaurant Lebanese style food) was excellent. The AC unit in the room did not get cold enough.

“Great, Affordable Hotel!”

I had a really great, comfortable stay. The hotel was clean, convenient, and affordable. Cable TV, wireless internet, mini-fridge (the grocery store is right across the street so you can stock up on any food you might need). I definitely recommend, seeing as most other resorts in the area are much more expensive.

Area recommendations
The beach around Grand Anse is beautiful and there are a few restaurants that are really great.

“Great location, clean rooms, needs new management”

The hotel is clean and very stragegically located beachfront and directly across from the local van/bus station that is very reliable and takes you to St Geroges and the historical district. The Saffire restaurant is excellent and proivdes fresh and prompt room service. The rooms are basic accommodation and dated. Not modern. Even the Garden view rooms look out on to the ocean. The business services are poor and front desk provides very little assistance. There are very few employees and the owner (an elderly gentleman) tries to clean the pool and does a very poor job of it. Both times I tried to use the pool I found paper, leaves and other unsighty debris so I went to the beach. The owner seems to hover all the time and it is a bit anoying. Over-all however the location is great, the rooms clean and the restaurant is excellent. At the right price, I can deal with a hovering owner and dirty pool.

Area recommendations
Grande Anse area is the best due to great beach, easy and realiable transportaiton., best restaurants walking distance,
Getting around
Take the local van/buses... they are safe and reliable and cost under one dollar usd per person (2.50EC). You pay when you get off. If you need a local taxi call Snag at (473) 534-6995. He is a private car, very inexpensive and a super nice guy who will not nickel and dime you to death. Local taxis tend to be expensive and love out of towners as they charge them extra for everything.. Snag does not... He took care of us like we were family... Full day tours are great. Make sure to include the waterfalls and a swim. Day sailing can be arranged by your hotel.. Grenada is great by sea so take a sundowner cruise or a fishing trip while you are there.
What to pack
deep woods off... shorts, bathing suits and light clothing. There is only one restaurant that requires collars and long pants for men and that is in the Coyaba resort... it was too much trouble for us and there are too many great places to eat.
Must see
water falls, nutmeg factory and take a full day island tour.. worth the investment.
Shopping
The historical district opposite the cruise ship dock is wonderful. There is a huge open air market that offers local spices and vegetables. For more sophisticated shopping visit the Spice Island Mall in Grand Anse. You can get almost anything there and there a very nice specialty shop called Psssst that has unique and one of a kind locally made jewelry, clothes and household items. There is also a wonderful gallery there that sells original paintings by local artists. Very high end quality paintings depicting the local color and culture. If you are an art collector this place is a must see. For the best Batik I have ever seen Art Fabrik is the place. It is located on Young street in the Carenage area, around the corner and up the hill from the St Georges Museum. All the Batik is hand made in the upstairs gallery and the artwork is amazing. The fabric used is top quality and they make many items for the home as well as clothing. Those are my favs so enjoy...
Dining
Saffire Restaurant in the Alamanda Hotel- continental and indian --all fresh and cooked to order.. BB's crabby shack in the Carenage -- local foods,,yummmy and waterfront location Boulangrie--- grand anse area-- good pizza and pasta and calzones to die for
Outdoors or beach

“Best deal on the island”

This was our third trip to Grenada and we found the best deal on the island. Located in the center of the best beach, this hotel everything we were looking for. We had a lot of dinning choices; the hotel restaurant located by the pool was very good, and several restaurants were steps away. We enjoyed sunsets and the beach from our terrace. The rooms were clean with ultra quite air conditioners and free internet access. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was clean and had views of the beach. My kids took tennis classes and my wife had a great facial and massage. My family and I had a great time staying at Allamanda; we are definitely going back to this resort.

Traveller's tip
You can access water sports and diving right on the beach.

“Good staff, conference room needs upgrading”

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The main conference room could have been cleaner. Very good beach front location and walking distance from banks, food outlets and shops. Overall, stay was pleasant.

Traveller's tip
Must try The Aquarium Restaurant in Point Salines. Hotel's restaurant was also very good.
