“NOT RECOMMENDED HOTEL”

This hotel is located above the train station which is rather crowdy and noisy. Bathroom leaked and when taking a shower the water ran from the shower area right into the room floor. Hotel is not well maintained and it showed the neglecting conditions. Service was bad. To get the hair dryer which supposed to be in the room to begin with, after few calls and no show I ended up having to walk to the reception to get one by myself. Room size is very small and poorly lighted. The inclusive breakfast is no good. I would say I can get better food at Seven Eleven. There are several other hotels in the same area which is far better at comparable price. I would not recommended this hotel to any one.

“Literally Atop the Main Railway Station in Goteborg”

Clean room, friendly staff, free buffet breakfast. Sits above the RR station, so train travel to Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen (as we did) is a snap. Bus to Goteborg airport stops there and is a 30-minute trip for about US$13. My only gripe was that our room did not have a direct window to the outside. One wall was a large window that abutted a little used foyer that had a big window. But this meant that you had to keep a large curtain closed for privacy. Kind of crappy motel-ish. But overall a very good stay. I would do it again. Room had a hair dryer and a nice LCD TV. Nice bar/restaurant in the lobby and there are coffee shops, restaurants and shops in the RR station below. Also across the street is Nordstam, the largest mall in Scandinavia, as well as many restaurants and shops in easy walking distance.

“Nice hotel at the central train station”

Nice, comfortable at Gothenburg's central train station. Staff were polite and helpful. Rooms are comfortable but no view. It is right on top of the central station and there are people milling about below you but you never hear them. Very convent location. The tram and bus station are adjacent to the train station. The hotel has a nice bar and breakfast buffet. Would definitely stay here again.

“most convenient location with comfort”

After checking many other hotels and then with personal experience, it is very difficult to beat the most convenient location of the Hotel G together with the type of comfort in Gothenburg., Sweden.

Area recommendations
Based on my experience with this hotel, I will highly recommend to anyone who wishes to stay at a central place in Gothenburg, Sweden, with so many conveniences, including Central Station for bus, tram and local buses, airport buses, the biggest mall, and the harbor, all within a few minutes walking distance.
What to pack
1. Don't forget to take an electrical outlet converter to use your shaver, computer or any other electrical item. 2. Since the floors are wooden (but clean), a pair of slippers would be helpful. 3. Take a folding umbrella 4. If you like walking within the city, do not forget to pack your running shoes.

“Great place to stay”

A really great location, surprisingly quiet room, comfortable. Very good breakfast. All staff fluent English speakers.

Getting around
The hotel is literally on top of the train station and bus station and is the drop off and pick up point for the airport shuttle bus.

“Pleasantly surpised at the peacefulness and quality of hotel.”

Hotel is centrally located, despite being located above the bus and train stations, it was restful and peaceful. Hotel staff were courteous and pleasant and the breakfast plentiful and varied.

“Loved it”

The hotel was fantastic: it wasn't over priced, the rooms were kept clean and were extremely comfortable! Although it is situated over the train station, we did no hear one train go by! Breakfast was served until 11am each day so you didn't have to get up ridiculously early! The staff were very helpful when wanting to find where to explore, I would recommend the city museum and the art gallery! They were fab! Everything you need is in walking distance, or if you fancy going further a field the station is next door! The people were friendly, the nightlife was great, and the food was delicious! I could not rate this city or hotel more, I can't wait to go back again!

Area recommendations
The Avenue is the main strip, it runs right through the center. Everything you need is on this main road, from pubs and clubs, to galleries, to restaurants. It's a lovely walk and the park is just off this street which is beautiful when covered in snow!

“Will be back next year for 7th visit!”

The First Hotel G is perfectly situated for exploring Gothenburg either on foot or by public transport. Also excellent for going out of the city as it is above the central rail station. Although it is above the station it is very quiet in rooms with no outside noise at all. The staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing seems too much trouble. Breakfasts are excellent. The lunch menus are delicious and reasonably priced. Room comfort 10 out of 10. Sleep like logs!

Area recommendations
Gothenburg is a wonderful Christmas city with lots to do and see for all ages and tastes. The walk up the Avenue to see the fantastic filmshow is a must, stopping along the way to hear the 'singing christmas tree' with various different choirs and also warming your hands by the open fires while watching children skating. Also a visit or TWO to Liseberg by Paddan boats via the canal for a truly lovely christmas experience including the excellent ice show and swedish smorgasbord in one of the many restaurants. This city really does have something for everyone, whether you like opera, nightlife, live shows, sightseeing, have children or just love shopping. Go and see for yourself!
Getting there
Getting there is the easiest thing in the world. Airport bus leaves for city right by terminal door every half hour and stops at several points in city.
Getting around
Getting around couldn't be easier, everywhere can be easily reached by foot or buy a Gothenburg pass which is really good value then travel by tram, bus, Paddan boat or ferry for free, also includes free city sightseeing tour.
Must see
At christmas, the Julstaden filmshow at the top of the avenue. Liseberg and the view all over the city from the top of the Goteborg Utikiken (nicknamed 'the lipstick'). Haga, the old town and if you love to shop, Nordstan the large shopping mall.
Family-friendly activities
A must would be a visit to Universeum, fantastic for young and old alike. Ice skating and too many exciting activities to list all at Liseberg park.

The hotel was in a fantastic location right in the middle of Gothenburg. Staff were pleasant and professional, the room was very comfy and warm, the breakfast was excellent and overall the hotel was a very successful choice. Will certainly return here in future and recommend others to do so also.

“Great weekend hotel”

Such a convenient hotel from the train station! It is amazingly quiet...comfortable rooms, nice breakfast buffet and easy access to sites in the city.

Area recommendations
Haga, Roda Sten Museum (fast access on a local boat)
Must see
If you like art and out-of-the-way places, I highly recommend Roda Sten. It's in an old boiler-house on the river. Great art exhibits and a nice little cafe after you finish wandering. It's in the southern part of the city, but we found fast access on a boat that left the docks near the town center.

Gothenburg, Sweden: As Sweden’s second-largest city, Gothenburg exists as a hub of culture and industry on the country’s southwest coast. Newcomers should start at Kungsportsavenyn, the city’s main street, crowded with people, pubs, shops, and restaurants. “Avenyn,” as it’s known locally, ends at Götaplatsen, a public square surrounded by the city’s art museum, theatre, and concert hall.
