“Goan Oasis”

Absolutely wonderful hotel, can't recommend this highly enough. The hotel and facilities are excellent - lovely rooms, excellent restaurants serving high quality food and great beach and pool facilities. However the biggest plus point for the Park Hyatt in Goa goes to their staff. Without exception, all staff at this hotel did their utmost to ensure you had a great stay, were extremely friendly and very willing to help - a shining example of excellence in customer service. We would love to return to this hotel again.

“Great service, Great beach, Great Goan experience”

This was our second visit in 4 years and will certainly return! We went to relax and we treasure the quiet of the property and do not feel isolated. There are loads of activities, some which occur one time a week: the outstanding horticultural tour of the beautifully landscaped 46 acre property, pottery making under the plam trees, kite flying on the beach, even a Goan cooking class (there is a fee for this one and worth every rupiah. You are served your meal, in the beautiful Casa Sarita and also receive a cookbook). Then, daily, there is yoga at 9, breathing at noon and meditation at 5.30, each session is 30 minutes. All of this is free! The staff are so friendly and you feel welcomed by everyone. The Sereno Spa is gorgeous and has so many different pamperings and treatments, including ayuvedic, you could easily miss the beach and pool completely if not careful! we have visited India several times and shopping, other than some outstanding Darjeeling at the Tee Shop in Margao, was not a priority for us. Wondeful variety of foods, everything is so fresh, and the staff takes such pride in what they prepare and serve. All menus seem to be available just about all the time and even through room service. Do come and allow yourself to relax and soak up the sun, or chose the shade of the palm trees while still enjoying the sound of the many waterfalls around the property. And a walk along the white sandy beach at sunset is a must.

““Beware of Rude and Overcharging Taxi Drivers. No Other means of Transportation.””

We stayed at this hotel early February, 2011. The hotel was nice and everything went as expected. The Beach was clean and very well maintained. The grounds were also very nice. The breakfast was great. The personnel were courteous and helpful. The only issue that we had with this hotel is that there is nothing to do right outside the hotel limits. It is located in the middle of nowhere in South Goa. To go anywhere, you need a taxi and the Taxi Drivers know this. The local bus is too crowded for the tourists. The taxi drivers have formed a Union and they harass and threaten any outside taxi and its driver that may come to pick up guests. The union people people just sit outside the hotel and behave as if they own the hotel. They charge roughly 75% over the going rate. For example, to go to Colva Beach, which is only 6 KM away, they charge Rs. 550 plus tax. For a return trip to Dudhsagar Falls, they charge Rs. 3500 plus tax while the real going rate is Rs. 2000 for a taxi from Colva Beach. I strongly suggest that the hotel should run an hourly shuttle to Colva Beach from where the guests can then rent a Taxi to go anywhere at the normal rates. If you are going to just be inside the hotel property like for a honeymoon, I would recommend this hotel highly but if you are the type that may like to explore the area outside the hotel, I would suggest that you look into a hotel in North Goa.

“Winter holiday”

This is an excellent hotel in every way, and the ideal place for a relaxing winter holiday. The only slight drawback - and noticeable immediately - is the slow service at breakfast time. Waiters often do not seem to understand the simplest requests and take ages to bring (for instance) a pot of tea!. The only way to resolve this is to deal with their supervisors directly - who were always very helpful.

Area recommendations
Goa is well worth visiting for its Portuguese history and culture. The Capital, Panjim, has modest shopping facilities - prices are very reasonable. But stay in South Goa where the beaches are excellent and it is quiet and relaxing. North Goa is where the noise is, and the hotels and facilities are cheaper - if that is what you are looking for.

“Beautiful Hotel”

This hotel deserves its 5* rating through and through. It's a beautiful resort with every amenity available on site. There are several pools; all equipped with sunloungers (and a policy not to "reserve" your lounger by putting your belongings on it!!) and staff who regularly bring you menus for the poolside bar. There are 5 restaurants on site as well, giving good variety, and eliminating the need to travel elsewhere to eat. There is traditional Punjabi, traditional Goan, Italian (that actually tastes authentic), the bar which does tapas-style bar nibbles, and the beautiful beachside restaurant "Palms" which does freshly caught seafood. Each and every restaurant does beautiful food - the best by far at any hotel. If you order something "western" it actually tastes like it should. The only downside of staying on the resort to eat is that the food is quite pricey, though you do get what you pay for. It can add up over time though, if you are eating there 3 times a day. There are also shops on the resort (admittedly, more expensive than the shops outside of the resort) but they sell a range of things from souvenirs to clothing. The downside to this hotel is that it is not within walking distance of the nearest town (5 mins drive away) though there is a small grocery shop just outside the complex for nibbles (the minibar is very expensive). Customer service was excellent - they are always polite and obliging and they all speak English really well. Would definitely return!

Area recommendations
There is not much to do outside the resort, and this is important to bear in mind if you are not looking for a relaxing sun holiday. Everywhere of interest is at least a 30 mins drive away.
Getting around
The hotel have their own drivers at a set price and we opted to use these for safety and ease. You don't need to book in advance - reception call a driver within 2 minutes of you asking for one. It can be charged to your room or you can pay the driver yourself.
What to pack
Surprisingly, and considering we went at the end of the Monsoon season (so it was still wet) we didn't need any mosquito nets or plug-ins whilst we were there. The hotel provide "fogging" around the resort to minimise any mossies, and the rooms are fully air-conditioned so you don't need to keep doors open. Please don't fail to take anti-malarials or insect-repellent based on this, though! Goa is still a hotspot for malaria, and you can still get bitten whilst you are walking around.
Must see
Panjim (the Capital) is good for shopping and is only 30 mins drive away. About 45 mins away is a Spice Plantation. You go round with a guide, and there's also an opportunity for an elephant ride and to wash the elephant (though this is expensive and they're really cheeky asking for tips from you). There is also a zoo called Bondla Zoo, though this is a bit "basic" with only 1 tiger, a few leopards, a couple of crocs, snakes and deer. The conditions the animals are kept in are not great either, so if you are animal lover like me, you may prefer to go to one of the Wildlife Sanctuaries a bit further away where it is more like a safari. We went off-season and so the infamous Anjuna flea market had shut, but I have heard that it is worth going to. If you don't want to travel that far, there is a beachside market at Colva beach (about 10 mins drive away) as well as Watersports.

“Pleasant Facilities but... bad service;”

... bad service; All requests only attended to after insistence (some even 4 times); was charged phone calls to toll-free numbers; customer service overall bad; Management unable to cope with noisy groups of 20 guests of 15 yos partying in one room unfortunately close to mine; but hotel looks nice, near the beach (but far from anything else), dining options pleasant (specially the Goese one)

“Overall Great Place to Stay”

My room was ready and though I arrived very early in the morning, they only took 20 mintues to get a room ready. The room was extremely clean and they clearly gave me the best room they had at the time as I was placed in one of the closest rooms to the beach. Some of the good points: The airconditioning is cold and quick The water in the room is clean The bed is huge! The shower is fantastic and the standing floor has walls next to it which can be made into a huge bath. and the not-so-good points: Most rooms are far away from the lobby The key card system they use there is very poor. I had to have my key re-made 4 times!!

Area recommendations
Nothing really. There is nothing to do around this area. If you are going to this hotel, you should plan to do some day trips to see areas like the capital and downtown, but walking outside of the hotel area - you will not find much to do at all.
