“Good Hotel with excellent proximity to beach and market!!!!!!”

I had reviewed some comments here and was a bit apprehensive with some of the comments that said this hotel was bad. But I have to say my stay at the hotel for the past 4 days has been brilliant. It is a great hotel location wise and is very close to the beach!!!! For offseason the rates were very decent and also the executive rooms were simple but very clean. You can get car and bike rentals just outside and it was close to mapusa market as well. The best part is the stretch of beach just outside of the resort is more of a swimming area and hence there are not many people doing all other activities like water sports and all and so you can just let go and relax. Do not miss the massage from the guys oin the beach on the Extrela Do Mar Shack....it was heavenly. All in all a good place to stay and enjoy Goa. I will definitely recommend this hotel to all...be it family, romantic, honeymoon or adventure visit

Calangute is good!

When to go

Go in the winter. Its cool - december to feb is peak season. mid november is ideal! New years eve is a nice time to go there. And so is february when the goa carnival is ON.

Getting there

take a flight, i took the mumbai express train, got down at madgaon and took a cab

Getting around

rent a activa scooter for 200 Rs. a day. Its the best way to travel around calungute. For faraway places, enquire for taxi rates. bargaining is a must. About 10-15% less is ideal price. Ask for a quotation with 2 - 3 people before striking a deal. Asking at hotel reception is safest but a little bit expensive. Step outside the hotel, taxi and scooter vendors are standing there. They will approach you. Scooters for hire need some Identity proof they take and keep as deposit. Its returned when you return the vehicle. Enquire for different vehicles, they have bikes and cars for rent too. Petrol is bought from the gray market. You can spot bottles kept outside the shops. 1 litre costs you about 80 Rs. Make sure you have filled enough for the vehicle to tow you around. You can find many shops selling petrol in bottles around the market area. You can spot them when you drive around. When you take the bike for the first time, it will have very little petrol, be careful and you wont get stranded ;)

Must see

Check fort aguada, the dolphins in the sea, and other goa attractions. You can purchase a goa map which contains all the attractions nearby and so its definitely worth spending those 75 Rs.

Dining

try the amazing sea food - goan style. if you're a veggie, try out the desi veggie fare at the restaurants on the market road. liqour is very cheap even by indian standards. Its cheaper than other states in india so you find many indians going over the top at goa. don't forget to try the local liqours - URAK and FENI. Dont forget to buy cashewnuts in goa. They're cheap and the best available in India. Insist on buying ZANTYE's brand cashewnut kernels - they never fail to impress!

Nightlife

Go to the area nearby Titos. There are so many clubs and pubs and discos around. If you prefer a quiet place, the best place to chill out would be one of the beach cafes and restaurants in calungute. If you need a quieter place, ask the restaurant owner to set your table a bit far from the music and noise.

“Good Resort”

The resort is situated in a walkable distance from the sea shore. Though some renovation work is going on which they told will be finished by the December 1st week. The service are really quick with friendly representetaive. As a whole it is a good experience to stay there.

Outdoors or beach

We spend most of the time in beaches. The security in the beaches are lot. Very safe to swim and the areas are marked with Red and yellow flags as danger and safe zone respectively. Water sports are a must do activity.

“Watch the waiters!”

Ok for proximity for beach but that's all. I think resort is very much pushing it in terms of a description. i understand they were getting ready for peak season but parts of the place were just awful, especially the walk to the beach. One thing of note is how the waiters will keep your change after you pay a bill or give back they change they want to give to you, I think I should decide if I give atop or not, overall a very disappointing hotel.

“Worst Hotel in The World”

The was the hotel from "Hell". I paid for an Executive Room and they tried to trip me off. I was travelling alone (women). They put me a beach hut on the beach - this compromised my security. The door and window latches were broken. No key to the safe. Dirty rooms and bedding. Rubbish left under the bed. No towels. Phone broken. Cockroaches in the bed ! I ended up changing rooms 4 times. The breakfast was dreadful. The staff did not give a dam.

“one of the best resort”

“Great budget beach side hotel experience”

Quite an experience living in the beach side shacks...a little shaky but quite comfortable...quite and serene surroundings, away from the hustle bustle of Calangute town, though not too far....great deal for the price you pay right on the beach...

Area recommendations

Calangute beach where the hotel is located is good for some beach side shacks (for local food and booze) and water sports...Baga beach, just a 5 min walk along the beach is also good... Dont miss the saturday night market at Arpora about 10 mins drive from here which starts in the evening at 7 and continues till late in the night. Some other beaches which are quite popular like Anjuna, Vagator are not too far...

Nearest Airport: Dabolim, near Panaji, about 30/40 Km. Nearest inter-state bus stop: Mapusa, 20 mins drive- Auto rickshaw charge- Rs. 150, Taxi - Rs. 200. Railway Station: Tivim (15 Km), Margao (40-50 km)

Hire a self drive car or 2 wheeler- easily available everywhere. Carry photo ID and driving license.

“Location alone...”

Very mixed emotions about this place. It is on the beach and that is wonderful. Breakfast each morning overlooking the Arabian Sea is pretty special. But the physical plant of the hotel is old, rooms small and some of the charges petty. Since it was Xmas week the owner was around and we had some sincere discussions of visitor's expectations versus the reality of the hotel. It's a real diamond in the rough. I was OK with putting up with some of the disappointments to be so close to the beach. They did throw a very nice New Year's Eve party which in Goa is pretty spectacular. Go if you are into funky....
