“A Night at the Races”
Hotel was booked for a Christmas party at Cheltenham Racecourse. Taxis were £10 there and £15 back. Hotel itself was really good but does look a bit tired - the bathroom was clean but would benefit from a refit. Restaurant and bar both looked really good but we didn't have chance to try them.
“OK hotel if you get it through a cheap deal, more 3 star than 4, food is 1 star...”
We stayed here for just 1 night as we were attending an event in Cheltenham. The hotel is very welcoming & set in beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately, the first thing that hit you is the heat! My goodness, it was like a sauna in the whole hotel! The staff are brilliant, so welcoming & friendly. Besides the unbearable heat throughout the hotel, the rooms were very clean albeit a little tatty for a 4 star hotel. However, I got the room through a good deal via Expedia, so we can't grumble. Perhaps they put us in one of the more further away, older, rooms due to our cheaper rate. I had to use a fan in our room as it was almost unbearable at night AND when I used the hairdryer! This is great for a quick stopover but sadly the food was simply appalling. What a let-down, especially charging 4 star prices (around £18 for a main) for 1 star cuisine quality. It was just dreadful. Tasteless & lukewarm. The breakfast was the same, lukewarm with food as tough as old boots on the side! The drinks are also very expensive & no bar snacks available at the bar, when we were still peckish after 10pm, due to the disappointing dinner. I didn’t get to see the pool and spa facilities but that may sway things for some, but don’t expect quality food. Great for a quick stay, but maybe best in winter! Again, the staff are amazing and so smily and helpful.
“Barcelo Cheltenham”
Lovely hotel, nice pool and great breakfast
“Photos can be desceptive”
I was so looking forward to a very luxurious stay at the Barcelo Cheltenham Park Hotel. The view of the hotel was taken from the Golf Course behind the hotel. The actual hotel is on a main road. The two rooms cost alot of money for one nights stay and have to admit that I was more than disappointed with what we got for that. The room standard is about a 3* not a 4* as described. For that sort of money I would expect a really good room. Disappointed.
“Quite tired and not up to standard”
On arrival we were put into an economy room which is on the lower floor which had a view of a wall approximatly 3 feet away. The bed was large and comfy. The room smelled of damp and the bathroom had mould around the bath. We decided to stay in that room for the evening. The next day we asked for a room change because of the smell in the room, we were offered a room on the top floor with a promise of an upgraded room for the 3rd night. The room on the top floor was incredibly dirty, the carpet, curtains and bathroom were dirty. Finaly the 3rd room was on the ground floor (Premium room) could be dicribed as no more than adequate. Quite how this could be described as a premium room beats me as it was a worse room than the 1st room apart from the smell and I'm not looking at a wall. Finaly the TV only had 6 channels. This not what I expect from a hotel that promotes itself as a 4*. Luck if it's a 2*
“An OK experience”
Staff, hotel and surroundings excellent. Food left alot to be desired.
“Lovely hotel, beautiful location”
A little precarious to find during the snow blizzards of January when approaching from the direction of London but we later discovered that it is only about 10 minute taxi journey to the centre of Cheltenham Spa. Beautiful location in the Cotswolds with lots of suggested walks available from the hotel staff. Gorgeous scenery and nicely decorated hotel: very good value for money for a romantic break away! The standard double room was a very good size and most comfortable (although only had one cup for tea!). The gym had numerous cardio stations as well as fully equipped weights area with several TV progrmmes available. Pool was smaller than expected but not that crowded for a Fri/Sat. The restaurant was disappointing. Service was very rushed, with several waitresses continuing to come up and we felt pressurised into ordering the next course as soon as we had finished the last one. However, our wine glasses and empty bottle were neglected throughout the evening. The food was not of 4* quality and had clearly been prepared en masse: considering we were the first in the restaurant, we were disappointed to realise that this had been prepared some time ago. Dessert (chocolate tart) was rock solid. Unfortunately, the fireplaces in the bars are ornamental only - such a shame as would have been lovely to recline with a brandy next to the fire looking out over the sun setting over the lake and the Cotswold hills.
“Good location, good price”
This hotel was in a good location for reaching Cheltenham and the surrounding area, and had a Gym and pool to use which were both very nice. The downside was that the walls were very thin so you could overhear your neighbours - not very relaxing but we could have been unlucky. It was also very busy at check out so that took a long time. Breakfast nice, and all in all very good value when using the expedia offer.
“Would definitely return for special offers”
Excellent value for money. Incredible offer of free dinner with B/B. all meals were very nice with plenty of choice, service was good and rooms were very comfortable. One of the best nights sleep in a large comfy double bed we have had in a long time. The hotel from outside looks a little tired for a 4* rating but we could not fault the accomodation and value for a one night stay.
“very impressed”
very nice hotel. we would like to go back in the new year and stay longer. loved the pool. just one little negative no hot chocolate with the tea and coffee in the room.
