This is a traditional Japanese ryokan that offers traditional experience with comfort. The room is spacious and they serve the beautiful delicious meals in the room. The staff is super friendly. It's right next to a shrine and there are many shops nearby. I would totally stay there again!

Very large room by Japanese and Kyoto standards. A definite upgrade from the business hotels (ie. APA I'm used to use).
Pleased with the stay with 3 issues though.
1. At C$300 a night breakfast for two should be included.
2. Large in-room bathroom but no public bath on site.
3. Beds were too hard, quite usual for Kyoto. My Japanese companion did not mind though, so this might be a case of western preferences.
Being a tourist traveler I did miss having access to an onsen and a comprehensive breakfast.
Nice room. Not too big, but good enough to sleep.conveniently located on top of a starbucks and a Tully's across the street. Bus stop infront of hotel and subway station one block away. Good location to see/dress up as Geisha.
We had a fantastic stay, one of the best ever. Antique street, boutique hotel, lots of care from the hostess and her managing team. Nice breakfast, courtesy drinks in the afternoon, wifi in a room (all free). We got more than bed and breakfast, we got personalized advise on Kyoto and beyond. Recommended restaurants and shops were right to the point, I would love to come to Mume again!

This ryokan, in the heart of Giin, was an excellent one. The staff were all pleasant and polite, especially if you can speak some Japanese. The rooms were in excellent condition an, and while I personally wasn't able to eat their breakfast or dinner while I was there, they looked delicious. The internet they offered was respectable: not fast but not slow either. Finally, the sento they had on the first floor was excellent.
As for the traditional aesthetics, I think this ryokan did very well. All the staff were wearing very nice spring kimono, which were appropriate for the season. The rooms each had three ikebana: one under the shoe box at the entrance, one in the tokonoma, and one on a side table. Of course, they had a yukata for each guest available as well as towels for the sent. It was all very nice.
As far as complaints go, the only one I have is that the futons were a little short for me. Of course I'm a big American guy so I find it hard to fault them for that.
