“A bit shabby round the edges but a great hotel”

This hotel may have seen better days but I had a great time here and you can tell it was once a very grand hotel. The room was huge with an ocean view and a terrace and the bathroom was lovely. It also had tea/coffee facilities in the room which was a nice touch. The room was clean and tidy and was extremely comfortable. The bar terrace is lovely on a warm evening and the food was delicious. Free internet for guests and lots of comfortable places in the lounge to sit. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the Main Street but it's in a terrific location. It's also perfect for getting to the top of the rock (via cable car) to see the apes and explore the top of the rock. I really enjoyed this hotel and would definitely stay again.

“Historic Hotel on The Rock”

The Rock Hotel is possibly Gib's best known and most prestigious establishment. Its position on the hillside overlooking the bay is outstanding. My stay commenced badly with an error at reception remedied by the charming receptionist just in time to avoid my wrath. Staff overall were good. My room was satsfactory if a little tired whilst the two problems with the television suggest that not everything had been checked as should be. Dinner in the restaurant was very good. Sadly breakfast was disappointing; cold plates did not improve the already only warmish offerings from the 'hot' buffet. Despite my observations suggesting that some improvements could be made, I overall enjoyed my stay.

Area recommendations
Gibraltar is such a small place that one can see its main attractions easily on foot mixed with a taxi tour of the Upper Rock area with the famous apes on show.
Getting there
The small airport is served by flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and now Liverpool. However arriving by ship must be the preferred methos with The Rock looming out of the early morning sea mist. If arriving from Spain, the frontier is easily crossed by car or on foot with bus services readily available on the Gibraltar side.

“Rock OK”

Hotel a little dated and in need of an over haul but our understanding is they are going to knock in down anyway and build on it. It was clean and comfortable so cant complain there. Furniture in room in need of updating but had all the facilities you need for a couple of nights.

Area recommendations
Great to visit all of Gib, lots of things to see, plenty of bars at night. Shopping is like any other UK high street.
Getting around
Use the buses £1.50 for a all day bus pass.

“Very disappointing restaurant.”

Menu looked very exciting so we selected the Rock Hotel for our short visit to Gibraltar while we were staying in Spain on a winter break before Christmas. The food was extremely disapponting ."Rock hard " bread rolls cut in half & served at the start of the meal were an indication of what was to follow! Doubt if the chef could manage without a deep freeze & he really needs to swat up on Morroccan cuisine as a lamb shank with 2 prunes & juice in a tagine dish does not constitute a tagine. A word of warning I returned to my room after a mediocre breakfast to find the apes had opened my balcony door & taken the complimentary biscuits & chocs I had bought & were sitting on the balcony enjoying same!! Apparently not an unusual occurrence but no warning by management to lock the balcony door.

Area recommendations
The old town/shopping area & nature park. Morrisons supermarket it is weird to visit a totally British supermarket abroad!!

“Not coming back if they would give me a free stay.”

Paid to much for a very bad service.

Area recommendations
The best area was the village. You have restaurants, some shopping and good hotels. Also a lot of tour's agencys are in the town. Beware that everything is in pounds and for american people it is two dollars for a pound. If you go to Spain everything is cheapper and the food is better. We paid for a salad 15 pound, in USA dollars 30.00. It is not worth it. A good choice is stay at town. There were a lot of hotels there and cheapest restaurants.
Must see
The apes (makakos) are a lot of fan. Michael cave is wonderfull. The siegue tunnels are very interesting.
