“High Quality and great location”
We stayed for 2 nights and found the staff and facilities excellent. You get what you pay for when staying here. Location is fantastic if coming to Genoa by train as its just a short walk from the Principe station. The Red double decker Hop On Hop Off bus stops right in the square in front of the hotel so great to get your first look at Genoa. Restaurant provides a great breakfast spread and dinner is good quality, though are are paying more than the local restuarants - a couple of nice ones up the street 100 metres provide great pasta and pizza options. Defintely one to use if looking for that extra quality.
“Great hotel!”
My husband and I stayed one night at this hotel during our honeymoon last week. The location was walking distance to the city centre, the room was large and clean with old world opulence, and the breakfast buffet was the best we had anywhere during our 3 week travels throughout Italy. The service staff was friendly and eager to help. We were very happy with our stay and would visit again.
“Convenient with Awesome Amenities”
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Savoia the night before we flew out of Genoa - the hotel, spa and staff were all excellent! The hotel is about 100 yards from the train station, and a 15-minute taxi ride to the airport (which cost 30 Euro). On a 10-minute walk you pass scores of restaurants & bars and can visit the palace, art galleries, a beautiful cathedral, boutique shops... lots to see! At the hotel, definitely check out the water spa on the lower floor . It's self-service - just walk in and try the nifty water jets in the pool, lay on a warm lounge chair, sit in the sauna, take an aroma therapy shower, etc. The hotel all speak perfect English and were very gracious. They had clearly received our special requests for room and bed configurations, and at check-in they confirmed those and they were all honored. They accepted our pre-paid reservation with no problems at all, and they didn't request any additional fees whatsoever. Breakfast was included with our hotel rate, but since we had to depart in the morning before breakfast was served, they erased the charges from our previous day's lunch!! I travel abroad a lot, and this is one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had.
“Sits above the Train Station”
We were very satisfied with the hotel although the first night we stayed there we paid the most we have ever paid for a small room. We were in town at the same time the boat show was being held which I am sure was the reason the hotel was expensive that night. The rooms are small but very nice. The hotel has a wonderful breakfast. The "Secret Spa" is really a delight. The views from the top floor terrace is amazing. The lobby and parlors are spacious and attractive. When you walk out of the train station you will see the hotel on the hill to your right. Very easy walk and wonderful to be near if you want to take a day trip to Portofino and Santa Margherita, or the five towns of Cinque Terre.
“Loved Genoa and the Grand Hotel Savoia”
We stayed at the GHS for 13 nights. It was a very clean and a beautiful hotel. Service and staff were always friendly and helpful. After looking around Genoa this may be the best hotel in town. It is close to the train station and buses and a 6 stop underground subway are also very nearby. Buy a 12 euro ticket and ride Mon to Sat unlimited on all buses, subways and ferry to Pegli. A small resort town west of Genoa, The hotel had complimentary fruit and wine in the room when we arrived. We were also able to check in early as we arrived at 11 am after a 9 hour flight from the USA. The bed was a queen but seemed much larger and very comfortable. The hotel is quiet and street noise was not a problem. Genoa is a great city. Head into the center of the city away from the old port area. Just explore the churches, old twisting streets and wonderful food. There are no crowds and it is just gritty enough to give you the feel of a real city. There were stores, markets and wonderful art around every corner. I would recommend the GHS and Genoa to anyone with time to explore this undiscovered city.
“The Best Hotel we have stayed in for a long time.”
This Hotel is in a perfect location for the train station and within a short walking distance of the center. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The breakfasts are fantastic!
“Great place to stay in Genova”
This hotel was great. Right next to the train station, did not need a taxi when arriving. Service was great. Breakfast buffet was outstanding and view from roof top restaurant where breakfast was served was a treat. Rooms were nicely decorated and clean. Great service.
“Italy is my favorite place on Earth...This hotel isn't”
The hotel is in a rundown shady area. The reception lounge and reading area was nice, the internet had to be paid for. The rooms were OK at best, but at least they were clean. The reception desk with the exception of three people (meaning there were four to the contrary) were rude and unhelpful. I asked if there was a place to do laundry. He told me they had a laundry service at the hotel. Knowing how utterly expensive it is, I just looked at him and smiled and waited for him to tell me what he knew I meant, which was a local laundramat. After 5 seconds, he gave in and told me where I could find one. The service was cold for the most part and unwelcoming. That's my biggest complaint. The restaurant on the roof which is also where you take breakfast was great. Beautiful view of Genoa's harbor and the breakfast was free and substantial. That was the only thing about the hotel I could really rave about. The spa we didn't even bother with since the one time we went down there it was closed. Five star? I'd take three away just for the overall feeling I got after being there. I was in Amsterdam before Genoa and we stayed at a true 5 star where the service was impeccable, the hotel beautiful, the location was pristine and charming and centrally located to everything and the beds the most comfortable I'd ever slept in in my life. NOW THAT IS A FIVE STAR HOTEL!
“I would love to go back”
Upon arriving at the train station in Genova, I was a bit worried because I had not printed out a map of its location, or minded any attention at all as to where our hotel was located. To my surprise, I exited the station and looked left...and there it was. Beautiful building, great spa, and all the amenities that anyone could need. I definitely recommend this hotel, you will not be disappointed.
“Surprisingly modern for "old" hotel in Genova...”
The lobby was beautiful early 1900s...the rooms were very modern...nice decor etc. Loved the outdoor dining off the restaurant. Not really a view but nicely done. Literally a two minute walk to the train station.
