“A gem in the wilderness”

Buckberry Creek Lodge was a pleasant surprise after driving through the honky-tonk clutter of Pigeon Forge. It is rustic and quaint and I mean that in the best sense. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our suite was very comfortable with gas fireplace, nice balcony overlooking the woods, large whirlpool bath, walk-in shower, full kitchen which would allow you to stay a week and cook-in if you chose to do so. Although keeping with the rustic theme, it had all the modern conveniences (including free WIFI) and appeared relatively newly built or refurbished. We had dinner in the dining room which was excellent. No need to worry about navigating steep, twisting East Tennessee roads after a bottle of wine. If you want close to Gatlinburg downtown without the traffic and noise, this is for you. We can't wait to return.

Area recommendations
Gatlinburg has escaped much of the Pigeon Forge blight which is a bit like Myrtle Beach moved to the mountains. Just not our thing. There are still plenty of touristy shops but also some nice craft/boutique shops as well. Worth a look if you crave retail therapy.
When to go
We specifically were there for the fall foliage. So 2nd-3rd week in October is a safe bet.
Getting there
If you want the best of fall foliage, you can travel southwest on the Blue Ridge Parkway and across the Great Smokey Mtn Park into Gatlinburg. Or if you want a longer loop, cut south and take the Cherohala Skyway or Tail of the Dragon to the Foothills Parekway which allows you to include the Cade's Cove loop into the park before heading to Gatlinburg.

“Best Place to stay in Gatlinburg!!”

Can't say enough good things about our one night stay at The Lodge at Buckberry Creek!!! We drove in for the one night because our son was getting married at a local covered bridge. Our small group of eight needed a place to go to dinner right after the service, and we had made reservations for dinner at the lodge. I couldn't have picked a more beautiful, private place with the best food. We were in our own room, were not rushed, had full access to the outdoor fire, view, etc. For a special occasion, it was wonderful! Couldn't imagine trying to find a place to eat in all the craziness of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Our room for the night was so nice, very modern with rustic accents (wooden furniture, fireplace) the bathroom was beautiful, everything was super CLEAN! The fridge had bottled water, creamer for coffee, cookies on our pillow! The next morning we had a continental breakfast at the lodge on the wrap around porch overlooking the Smokie Mtns. next to the outdoor fireplace!! Really felt like we were living the DREAM! They even had blankets if you were chilled. Every little detail was thought out , can't say enough good things about our stay at The Lodge at Buckberry Creek! Just sad we could only stay one night. If our schedule would have permited we would have loved to have checked out the hiking trails & grounds. Maybe next time!

“Great Hidden Gem in the Smokies”

This hotel exceeded our expectations; my girlfriend and I visited for a long weekend over Labor Day and were very impressed by the service and friendliness as well as ammenities like the continental breakfast and awesome hiking trails and camps around the property. It's nice to be so close to downtown Gatlinburg, but still miles away in terms of noise and privacy. Probably wouldn't visit in winter, because the roads would be really dangerous, but will definitely be going back in the spring!

Area recommendations
Take advantage of the park; downtown Gatlinburg is too hectic and busy and traffic is awful. When you're in the park it's a lot more relaxing and enjoyable - not to mention cheaper, without all the tourist trap shops and 'attractions' downtown.

“Wonderful place”

This was a wonderful place away from all the craziness of Gatlinburg!! Wow did not know it was that commercial. The mountains and hotel was really very nice just amazing the views, we had a bottom floor room and the view was some what blocked but it was still very pretty, the room was very well kept and clean!! It was a girls get out of town weekend and could not have asked for more we hiked and road down river, and then we could come back to the tranquility of the Lodge in the evening and just relax!! People at the Lodge were really very nice took care of you and helpful. The breakfast might have been a little better but nothing to really complain about.

Area recommendations
The mountains and the trails are much better than all the commercial stuff in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge but that is just for me if you want to take the family for all the shopping and family games then those towns are perfect for you.

“Buckberry Lodge - The best lodge, bar none. Loved it!”

My wife and I stayed here, after reading other Expedia reviews singing the Buckberry's praise. Well, suffice it to say, the user ratings were spot-on. I had absolutely no complaints, the 4 for comfort was simply personal preference on the outdoor (wood) seating. The staff was extremely accomodating without the syrupy-sweet over the top attitude that those who try to hard in the wrong things do.... The hotel food was terrific, both the lamb and the tenderloin, a seriously 1st class meal. The price can reflect that quickly if you aren't careful. The view from the room was terrific, as you atop the mountain, My only real complaint, which isn't one really, it's more of me not paying attention..is the hotel doesn't promote the pavilion at the end of the walk path..it was gorgeous! I didn't find it till the last day, my mistake. All and all, you aren't going to be disappointed with this stay, can't wait to go back!

Area recommendations
If you're a motorcycle rider, then go check out the "Dragon's Tail" loop at the bottom of Gatlinburg Park, it's over 300 turns in 11 miles. Unreal. For a nice rafting adventure, check out Outdoor Adventures rafting, great guides who really know the river, and make sure you have a good time It's Gatlinburg...what's not to love?
