Gassin, Sainte-Maxime - Saint-Tropez Hotels
Set high in the heart of the St-Tropez peninsula, this fortified hill village has views as far as the Alps on a clear day. Once a Moorish stronghold, Gassin was later used as a lookout post to warn of Saracen invaders. Despite the odd brush with celebrity (Mick and Bianca Jagger married here) the village and its scenic surroundings of vineyards and ancient forests remain unspoilt. Roadside restaurants take advantage of amazing coastal vistas.
