I chose it as being near to Austerlitz station. The double room was small, quite big enough for one though. Quiet at night though opposite a building site so noisy during the day. a good Moroccan restaurant nearby.

We stayed in the cinema room which was so spacious -- it fit 4 people comfortably. For it to be perfect, I think there should have been a refrigerator. Other than that, the hotel and its staff was exceptional.
The hotel is at the bottom of the latin quartier, in a very Parisian area, with lots of local restaurants and bars. Easy …More
everything seem just fine - very friendly counter person who spoke english, let us drop off our bags at 9 in the morning before the 1pm check in. clean and orderly room. very small bathroom but very clean and modern - knees touching the wall while sitting on the commode, shower is pretty small - but again clean and works great. elevator is designed for one person and one bag ... don't try 2 (though pretty standard for older hotels) . bed was in good shape ... wifi ... etc was good.
we were on the 1st floor - close enough to the subway lines as one could set the clock by. ugh.

"Convenient location near to all public transport."
Comfortable enough and clean room. Good breakfast service. Separate toilet without hand wash facility is poor hygiene standard. Surrounding streets are somewhat shabby with dirty footpath and quite a few vandalised cars on the roadside giving some concern for safety while walking on the pavement next to the hotel.
Although away from the city centre, good metro service is available and one can get to the city centre in 25 minutes.
We had a lovely stay at the Grand Hotel des Gobelins. As newlyweds, we wanted to have a private, clean and "Paris" space but didn't want to break the bank. Our room was bigger than expected for Paris and we appreciated that we had enough space for two suitcases and carry-ons and space to move around. We were on the 6th floor which had a great view but we took the stairs in the mornings since the elevators were heavily in use (we are from Toronto and are used to elevators going 48 floors in a minute!). The hotel's concierge staff was always accommodating and helped us with directions, calling taxis and generally discussing our daily plans. They were also so nice when I tried my rusty French with them. We were very pleased with the location as we felt like we were in residential Paris (no tourist traps nearby) and when we went for meals at close by cafes, we were around local Parisians. Breakfast was also included at the hotel which makes a huge difference when you want to splurge at dinner!
We had a bit of trouble with the AC but this was also handled by my husband who doesn't speak French. We also noticed the shower isn't ideal for anyone over 6 feet/big in the shoulders.
Amazing time at Mercure! The hotel is so convenient with the metro right across the street. My friend and I had a great time, the room was wonderful (there is mood lighting - great touch!) and the staff was excellent. I highly highly recommend this place for your time in Paris!
This is a good hotel, which is clean and easy to find near metro and buses. However is a little noisy due to it's location. It is however, near lots of good places to eat, on the railway to Gare du Nord taking you to the airport and major railway links. Surprisingly around the corner to Jardins de Plantes which is a real treasure, and the Batobus stop on the Seine.
