aggressively modern hotel on the outskirts

Posted 03-Jul-2014
Pros: the service was good it was quiet
Cons: the food service was not up to much. the public areas were dominated by non-residents
Location: Galway is small, and quiet interesting. Connemara is wonderful
The hotel was quiet, despite lots of guests partying. The room was large & comfortable. Breakfast was indifferent - slow-ish service, wrong order delivered (but quickly replaced) the bar was poor - too few seats, too slow service the trip into town was a bit too long, and dull.

A holiday stay with my daughter

Posted 17-Jun-2014
Pros: We loved the decor and themes of the lounges as mentioned by other reviewers.
Cons: The common area/lounge furniture is showing it's age; a bit of wear on all corners of upholstered furniture. Our room beige carpet had stains.
Location: 1 1/2-2 mile walk to Galway City center/bus station-quiet,a little effort to get anywhere (although, bus stop is across street). Dinner behind hotel.
Stayed for 2 nights while on holiday to Galway. Enjoyed "free" breakfast bar each morning. Our room was very comfortable. It is a large hotel. It took us 2 mins to walk to our room from the elevator/lift.

Go for the decor

Lounges downstairs quirky and comfortable. Bedroom disappointing-at this price and rating I expect a coffee machine in room not tired coffee sachets.a turndown service without the chocolate?Bathroom not spotless.Bed comfy.Breakfast buffet good choice.Dinner menu not very exciting but there was a vegetarian menu . All the staff were courteous and friendly which was great.

Strange Hotel

Posted 15-Jun-2014
Don't be fooled by the web site. Weird combination of good hotel with 70's leisure centre looks. It looks as though it has been an after thought of a company who built a cinema complex and office space. Mostly good 3☆ though food (breakfast) and staff are very good. Bar characterless and most residents seem to go out for food/drink. If you fancy an Alice in Wonderland web fantasy that was designed for photos on a web site, be my guest! Not Espa products in room and small bathroom with bath/shower!

GREAT!

Posted 11-Jun-2014
The G Hotel is great if you want something a few minutes away from City Centre. Keep in mind the hotel is very modern and not typical Ireland. It could have been in NYC or Miami Beach. Service was fantastic and rooms were big and comfortable. Most comfortable bed in Galway!

Nice but unremarkable.

Close to town. Very funky interior, attempt at low light ambience detracts from functionality. Staff good, breakfast good. Free parking and wifi nice.

Nice hotel.

The lobby and restaurant are beautiful. The staff was also really nice and friendly. The rooms are nice but could use some updating as the carpets are white and shows all the stains, wear and tear. The hotel is also a little far from main attractions; about a 20 min walk. Overall nice hotel.

Funky, trendy hotel

Posted 25-Jan-2014
Pros: Clean, comfortable.
Cons: The staff in the restaurants were not very friendly or attentive.
Location: The hotel is a bit removed from the sites of Galway.
It was nice. The hotel is definitely something to see. Very clean and modern. Also comfortable. But, not in a very good location....a bit removed from everything.

An Experience!

Posted 07-Jan-2014
Pros: Food was expensive but very good and the staff were attentive and efficient except for the "managers" trying to pacify guests with no seats.
Cons: Put paying guests before visitors. For these prices we would expect better treatment and availability of basic services. How did this get 5 stars?
Location: Galway City has everything you could want and is a short cab drive away - about 10 Euros each way but cheaper than parking!
We booked this hotel as a stop over whilst heading to the West of Ireland for New Year and were attracted by the photographs resembling the Mad Hatters Tea Party. We were also curious about the mixed opinions but as seasoned travellers we now fully understand. Firstly (externally) the hotel resembles an office block and backs onto a small retail park with whom it shares a dubious looking underground car park - so no real security beyond what you'd expect for this. The weather was terrible so we used cabs but I would say you are a good 20-30 minute walk from Galway city centre - it is not closeby! Internally the décor is a mix of dark / "moody" colours and vibrant bright tones with equally obscure furniture. It kind of works but beneath the surface its just paint and props. It must be said however that the spa is superb and paying 10 Euro's and having to pre-book keeps the numbers down - unlike the lounge & dining areas! Indeed the most off putting issue for us was the need to book a seat for a cup of tea, drink or to eat (not in the restaurant!!). The hotel has ties with the neighbouring cinema and a function room next door so it is also frequented by people using these facilities as well and in the couple of days we were here there were several occasions where we fancied a drink or tea and there were loads of unoccupied "reserved" table and residents waiting to be seated??? People seemed to book a spot and fail to show leaving the passing guests waiting
