Good Family Hotel

Posted 17-Jul-2014
The Connacht is a large, modern hotel about twenty minutes walk from the centre of Galway. The staff are very helpful, welcoming and efficient. All the facilities are clean and in good condition, personally I found the bed too firm, but the room was spacious and comfortable. I would recommend the hotel for those with young families, but if you want a quiet break it's probably not the best choice. There was a lot of noise late in the evening, mostly from children, for example, one night I had to go the corridor at 1:20am to ask for quiet having been woken several times by a young girl banging on another room's door calling for her Daddy. Thankfully, we hadn't booked breakfasts as there was a long queue and the restaurant was also noisy, the large bar was lively in the evenings and had several big screens displaying sports. There is a nice Italian restaurant, recently opened, which we found to be very good in all respects. There is plenty of free parking which is a big advantage over more central hotels.

Nice hotel dirty pool

The hotel was nice but you could catch the clap from their pool. There was band aids and bathroom paper in the water :(

Nice hotel, great bar food but beds like bricks

Posted 11-Jul-2014
Pros: Liked the pool and the bar food. Nice gardens as well.
Cons: Could be doing with a good freshen up
Location: Jut outside the town, easy access to most places from here. Good location.
Just back from a stay in this hotel. My little girl loved the pool and so did I. The food in the Bar is amazing and the staff are great as well. The breakfast is ok, a bit of a cattle market. The worst thing for me was the beds. It was that hard I could hardly get up in the morning. Other than that we really loved Galway and will be back although next time I think we will stay in SaltHill.

Good for Holiday but not business

Posted 11-Jul-2014
Pros: Good leisure centre with big pool that is free for residents.
Cons: The Internet in hotels can sometimes get overloaded and crash but most places have separate servers and the reception staff can usually re boot it.
Location: The location is very good as it is not far from the town centre and main routes around the area.
This is a smart hotel with an excellent Leisure facility for families and children. It has activities for kids and a choice of restaurants. There is a large car park and the rooms are ok. The downside is the Internet for business customers which has no back up servers or multiple hot spot sites, no free public Wi-Fi in reception and after complaining to staff at reception on 2 occasions they did not have the ability to sort out the problem. Had to work off line and then get connected at McDonalds at a nearby retail park the next day. Had no problems at the other 8 hotels I have stayed at in Ireland. I will not stay here again.

Feels like a 4 star hotel. Friendly staff, great rooms, and three different restaurants.

Restaurant staff slow! Waiting waiting waiting

Posted 09-Jul-2014
Waited to be seated for ages!! Then asked n was told to wait! Then to go to other side of restaurant! Then left sitting for ages! Stopped someone to take our order! As waiter didn't come bak! n they got it wrong. Seen staff argue etc on front of each other! Unprofessional!! Ate 2nd night again out of concurrence at bar not restaurant and it was more of same- heard staff talk about certain tables and bills etc! Approached n told to wait for our order!! Had to stop someone else for order n just felt overall it really dropped standard of hotel!! Room lovely -clean but eat elsewhere!!!

Nice hotel. Needs better directions/actual address

Posted 06-Jul-2014
Pros: Good location, acceptable walking distance to quays area, Spanish arch area.
Cons: Directions for travelers not familiar with area
Hard to find without an actual address with a building number, not just street name. Name of hotel did not come up in GPS unit. Otherwise the hotel was fine, clean, etc.

A one night stay in a family room with 2 children.

Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: Leisure centre
Cons: A more reasonable breakfast option. €10 per adult,€6.50 per child expensive. room service menu looked reasonable but could not be ordered before 12.30
Location: Galway city lovely restaurants , pubs and lovely drives
We stayed on a Sunday night in June checked in about 3 . Checkin very quick had a ground floor room. The room had a double a single and a fold up camp bed. My 9 year old found camp bed very comfortable and we found other bed comfortable. The room was quiet and no noise. Really nice leisure centre well laid out and visually very pleasing. 17 year old used the gym and said it was good. We used it Sunday and Monday. No locker keys in the ladies big they are replacing these and had fitted out the gents. We saw their was a large bar area and seats in a long glass area at the front and outside. There was music playing Sunday night and sport was shown on the Tvs. There also seemed to be a Children play room but did not seem open and looked Like movies would be shown in the evenings based on the posters. We were meeting family in Galway so did not use any of the bar or restaurant facilities. We had not booked breakfast and it was cheaper to get a breakfast roll from Spar across the road as we were only there one night. A little further from Galway city than we thought a €9 taxi fare to the centre . A reasonable room only price.
