Comfortable hotel with good amenities

Posted 14-May-2015
Pros: Everything, particularly the excellent staff who were happy to assist in every way.
Cons: Nothing
Location: We only stayed overnight and were on our journey early the next day, so we did not take advantage of the location and the sights nearby.
We enjoyed our stay at the Connacht very much. The food was excellent as was the service and helpful staff.

They should be paying me

Posted 26-Apr-2015
Room decor dated. Thought I was back in 1985. TV prob dates from same era. Needed quick food before going to work and had The worst hotel burger I have had displeasure of eating in some time. had 3am entertainment of drunken singing which lasted for at least half hour before loud knocking and shouting eventually put it to bed. Will I stay here again. Not likely any time soon!

Convenient

Antique television and soft furnishings. Bar and waiting staff seemed indifferent to prompt customer service. Warm Irish welcome must have been all used up for St Patrick's day earlier in week.

Nice hotel overall. Food was ok. Room was clean, but bed was springy and TV was dated. Nice bar area and live music.

Good budget hotel

Posted 27-Feb-2015
Pros: Good value, off-season mid-week rate was sixty euro and much better all-round than Flannerys next door.
Cons: Replace the windows in the old block - single-glazed and well past use-by date!
Location: Short taxi ride from Galway city centre. Beware of traffic on main road outside hotel at peak rush hour times - plan your travel!
Well located hotel, just outside main city area. Check-in was speedy. Room on ground floor in old block was well-finished in renovation but the old single-glazed windows weren't replaced so there was a draught near them. Bed was a little hard but otherwise a comfortable room. Room service finishes (9.00pm) before the restaurant (9.30pm) which was a bit limiting.

Good, but not quite perfect

Posted 18-Feb-2015 on Hotels.com
The hotel has a kids club for 3-13-year-olds; especially for the younger ones, it is absolutely fantastic, and I can't praise the staff enough. The swimming pool is great, allowing lane swimming as well as paddling, plus a kids pool and a jacuzzi to go with the sauna and steam room. Some minor maintenance issues were noticeable, that I'd expect attentive hotel staff to note and get fixed - a number of locker hinges in the gym area were broken, the fire door foam in many door is quite noisy (the kind of issue parents notice when checking in on small children). Nothing big, certainly, but things that stop the hotel being top class. A bigger issue is the mismatch between the two-bedroom suites' housekeeping policy, which is every 5 days only, not daily as in usual hotel rooms, and the equipment: there are cups and plates and cutlery and a sink, but no dish cloths (or dishwasher) - I'd expect to bring some of these things to the self-catered apartments, which the hotel also has, but not to the suites; there is neither broom nor vacuum cleaner - I'd expect one or both of these to be present whenever there's no daily housekeeping, to at least clean up simple messes like spilled popcorn or crisps or whatever. The stay was good, but the hotel needs to pay more attention to details.
