very nice hotel

Posted 15-Jun-2015
Pros: Spacious room with everything needed for a comfortable night.
Location: Easy access to highways for our return to Dublin.
Hotel was easy to find with Google Maps the room was clean and spacious. Staff was helpful. This is a corporate hotel likely with different food suppliers than the smaller hotels we stayed in throughout our tour of Ireland. As a result the our meals while very good didn't exceed our wildest expectations that we had become used to in Ireland.

Nice hotel but not in a convenient location

Posted 01-Jun-2015
Pros: Clean and well kept
Cons: A shuttle service should be added and water for the rooms.
Location: It is walkable to downtown, but not recommended with luggage.
The only thing you are getting for your money is the room. It did not include transportation to downtown, water, breakfast or anything else. When I asked if I could get water for the room I was told to go buy some next door. When I asked if a shuttle was available to downtown I was told there was bus service nearby (but after waiting a half hour, neither scheduled bus came). The staff were hard to locate and not very helpful.

More of a Truck Stop than a Hotel

Posted 30-May-2015
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The people at the reception should be trained to be non confrontational. The hotel should disclose a gas station is attached to the building.
Location: The location is terrible. It is not near down town Galway.
I booked through expida earlier on the day of my arrival. When I checked into the hotel, the room I was allocated was not what I had asked for. I called reception and was rudely informed my room is all they had and no other rooms were available. I proceeded to take my luggage back to the underground car park. I returned my card key to reception and was then informed they had the room I requested. I asked why was I been treated this way? My experience at the reception was not pleasant, I had to inform the receptionist that I was not at the hotel to argue with them. I left the pillo hotel with a bad feeling that it is always someone else fault. They had paperwork printed out and circled in pen to substantiate their argument, I had my ipad, I felt like all they wanted to do was argue. I left the hotel and did not stay the night. I was charged the $165.00 for a room I did not book and a room I did not stay in. I recommend any person looking for a poor quality motel, this may be what you are looking for. A gas station attached to the building and a main road outside the property. More like a truck stop than a hotel. I left and booked into a 5 Star Hotel in downtown Galway and had a fantastic nigh regardless of the poor treatment in the Pillo

Nice overall for the price

Posted 27-May-2015
Pros: Free parking, proximity to city center.
Cons: Self-service laundry or more reasonably price laundry service, better WiFi connectivity.
Location: If you drive to the city center, park at the train station. It is a central location and only 6€ for 24 hours.
For the price this hotel is a pretty good deal. The rooms are spacious and fairly clean and the room has an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer which are nice and not usually found in European hotels. The staff were very friendly and courteous. There is a vending machine that sells adapters for your electronics at a very fair price (4.50€). The free parking is a big plus. It's about a 5 minute drive (traffic permitting) to Eyre Square or a 20 minute walk. The breakfast is nothing to write home about so I would skip it and grab breakfast elsewhere at one of the many cafes in the area. My only real complaints about this hotel are that the WiFi was so slow that it was unusable (it took about half an hour just to download 5 email messages without any attachments onto the GMail app on my phone). Also, the hotel advertises both laundry services and laundry facilities in their Expedia listing which is one of the main reasons that we chose it but there are no laundry facilities, only an expensive valet laundry service (2€ for each pair of socks, 5.50€ for each blouse). This is the first time I have stayed at a hotel that charged on a per-piece basis for laundry rather than a per-load basis and I thought this service was very overpriced.

Not a 4 star hotel anymore!

Posted 27-May-2015
Pros: It was clean.
Cons: The rooms need updating!
Great for just an average room but not all the luxury that they preach. Hotel staff did their job but did not seem overly friendly or helpful. The room was pretty outdated. The location is also not ideal if you want to walk anywhere less than a mile.

A little far from downtown

Really nice hotel although our GPS could not locate it! 20 minute walk into center of Galway. Breakfast was very good and included in our rate. Kings size bed was a treat.

Modern hotel

Posted 22-May-2015
Pillo, despite the odd name, is a pleasant modern hotel within easy reach of the CBD. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms clean. The restaurant was good and the service excellent. There were a number of tourist busses while war were there(3 nights) but they did not impact on the ambience.

Warmth within a large city

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: Location and style
Cons: Nothing
Location: Close Too town but still easy to access
What a great place to stay. Staff was welcoming and food was great connected to a grocery store for needed items. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Nice central hotel, but not a 4 star

Posted 09-Apr-2015
Pros: Check in staff very friendly
Cons: It's just not a 4 star, bar service was slow
Location: Close to Eyre Square and Shop Street and only 15-20 mins walk to the lively part of town with great pubs and shopping.
A pleasant hotel that's within reasonable walk of Eyre Square but not what I would class this as a posh 4 start hotel. Check in staff were very pleasant and the rooms were fine (clean with comfortable beds though basic) but this hotel feels like a 3 star conference / family hotel rather than a 4 star romantic retreat. Buffet breakfast was decent though service that evening in the bar was very slow despite there being few people in drinking. Silly little things like having to trek out of the bar and down the stairs for the toilets when having a drink seemed a little impractical. That said, it was good value but just don't expect it to stand up to the typical 4 star experience you may have had elsewhere.
