Great hotel, but find your watering hole elsewhere

Flannery's is a really nice hotel. While out in the burbs, it's just a short bus or taxi ride into or out of the City Centre, and the price was just right for the location. The staff was entirely helpful and friendly and the room was just fine. Just one thing though - if you are inclined to spend time at the bar in their pub -and there are no others around except at the next hotel down the road where the patrons may still be alive, be prepared to be sitting with grumpy old codgers and codgerettes with nothing to say, but only to glumly stare into their pints before they keel over after one too many. I love talking with the elders, as they have so much to offer me as I approach my old age. But these ones were as interesting a cardboard box, as lively as stale bread, and as depressing as a pair of cement boots on your feet as you're about to be thrown overboard. And dear Lord, did I try with them. So again, cheer up as this is a great place to sleep and at the right price and not to far out of town, but may I suggest that you wet your whistle and water your horse in town before you go out to Flannery's on Dublin Road to sleep...

Very pleasant staff

Rooms could benefit from having an extra power point. I would also have expected an iron/ironing board in the room.

convenient

Pros: Convenient for Galway city and also for travelling afar. Free car parking was useful. The the bar was friendly and the food was good.
Cons: Rooms could do with updating but clean and comfortable
Location: One day spent in Galway city visiting sights, took an open bus tour and did shopping. 2nd day visited Kylemore Abbey and Galway Crystal.
Spent three nights while visiting friends in the South of Ireland. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, it was a bit dated but as we spent most of our time visiting the area we didn't spend much time in the hotel. We used the local transport to get into the city, the bus stop was outside the hotel and the bused were quite regular up to about 19:00 hrs. We used the bar for food, it had a good range of choice on the menu and it was well prepared. The atmosphere in the bar was very friendly. We really enjoyed our stay at Flannery's Hotel and Galway was excellent , we would stay here again.
