“Luxurious and Comfortable”
Highly enjoyable stay at the Clayton. The Hotel staff were very warm and welcoming and were quick to resolve a booking oversight. Room was spotless and impeccable. Bed was comfortable. In room services was OK. No WiFi however which did Irk me slightly as it was advertised. Hotel Bar is nice and showed live sport. Service for Bar Food wasn't great, 30 minute wait. Didn't provide drinks until after food, and waiter wasn't exactly friendly, Overall I'd rate it 8/10
“Location not ideal, but hotel is worth the bus fare to Galway City Centre.”
Stayed here for a few nights with a friend. The room was spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was to die for. There is a shopping centre (with a Dunnes) across the street and several bus lines leading directly to City Centre pick up and drop off nearby, so the not-quite-near-enough-to-walk location (in relation to Galway proper) is not a problem in the least.
“Good modern hotel on Dublin outskirts”
Easy to find on the main route in from Limerick (and Dublin) parking was free and plentiful and check-in friendly and quick. Our room was great - on the corner with double aspect, huge with two large double beds a big separate sitting area, good flat-screen TV with lots of channels, tea making bits, air-con and a large modern bathroom (with his'n'hers basins!) and good toiletries. We were on the top (second) floor (on the quiet side next to the old road, away from the dual carriageway). The far view was mainly of the shopping centre opposite but spoiled slightly by a delapidated old portacabin in the foreground! One odd thing was we kind of expected a mini-fridge (having just come from a very similar standard hotel which had one) but there wasn't. But there was a hole in the back of the cupboard below the tea tray where it looked like one should have been (or was once!) The included breakfast served in the main restaurant was a perfectly acceptable buffet of hot and cold items - nothing outstanding but a good choice with good service. We ate dinner in the bar both evenings and the food was very good and reasonably priced but the service was a little erratic. We tried the swimming pool which was fine (long but not very wide) but the fitness facilities didn't look great - one small room with 3 or 4 bits if equipment. Our overall impression was of a very good hotel that with just a little extra work could be really excellent.
“OK, but not as good as I'd expected from other reviews”
On the whole this is a good hotel. To be fair it doesn't market itself as giving a memorable Irish experience and it certainly could've been a mid range chain hotel anywhere in the world. I guess the views of the dual carriageway or drive thru KFC don't help! The much celebrated beds (reported by others to be extremely comfortable, "the best they'd ever slept in") were, ok. Mugs instead of the very small cups and perhaps a complimentary pack of biscuits would;ve been appreciated. For the size of the hotel the fitness room is very basic. The staff were courteous and helpful and parking was good. If you're on business this is probably a good choice, however if you're holidaying maybe look at something more intimate and in a location that better reflects the country your in.
“Beautiful rooms”
While the surrounding area lacks inspiration, the hotel itself is amazing. Rooms are huge and beautifully decorated. While away from most everything, it is on a convenient bus line that we used several times without problems.
“Last night before leaving Ireland”
Great hotel, good restaurant, not too expensive. Looks like lots of business types stay there, probably for good reason. It is a bit complicated finding the place, however, gps would help a lot.
“Needs a thorough cleaning”
We were greeted by friendly staff on our arrival for a one night stay. No waiting got into our rooms within 10 minutes. The room looked great . Comfy beds, nice decor. However when I went to open the drapes I noticed that one of the sheers had something on it. I have no idea what it was but there was no way anyone inspection/cleaning this room could have missed it! I shrugged it off, thinking "maybe it's paint or make-up" We only had one evening in Galway and wanted to make the most of it ,so I let it go. After having a wonderful time at the Kings Head, we headed back to our hotel. Once back in the room I showed our friends the mess on the drape and we discovered that they all felt weird and smelled funky. They have probably never been laundered....GROSS. Loved Galway , would never stay again or recommend it to anyone.
“Great Stay at the Clayton”
This was our third or fourth stay at the Clayton. We visit extended family frequently and the location is convenient to major roads into Galway city as well as neighboring towns. The hotel is well-appointed, staff are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. A quick lunch at the hotel bar was well-prepared and reasonably priced.
“decent large hotel”
Pretty good functional hotel. Too far out of town to walk, but over the road from the racecourse. The breakfast was average and no more, as was room cleanliness. Rooms were otherwise large and comfortable. Hotel staff all friendly and efficient. Pool was a little small, though fine in the morning. Steam room out of order. The Guiness in the bar was superb.
“Great hotel in a great location”
Stayed four nights in this comfortable hotel. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Rooms were nicely furnished. Pool/fitness cleanly maintained. Parking was complimentthe Spanish Arch and Quay Street area; close enough to enjoy the shops, pubs and restaurants. The hotel is located about 10-15 minutes drive from Spanish Arch and the Quay Street area; just close enough to enjoy the shops, pubs and restaurants without actually staying downtown. It is also located near major access ways, so it is very convenient to get to some of the suburban/rural areas surrounding Galway Center.
