“don't expect 4star”
the lighting in the rooms is poor A number of minor faults had to rectified in our suite.I would have expected a served breakfast in a 4star.Evening menue practical identical every night. The games room looks to be unfinished. Our prevous visit was more inpressive than this one
“Simply Beautiful”
Just driving in to the Abbeyglen Hotel is beautiful. We were welcomed right away and they had tea and scones waiting in the lounge. You felt far away in the coutryside and yet we walked a short distance to town and spent the first night in Ireland in a magical place. We only ate breakfast, at the hotel, and it was lovely. Great food and great service. I will tell all my friends about this special place.
“Friendlyand comfortable family-run hotel”
Good, family-run hotel, which happens to be a castle. They do a lot to make your stay enjoyable. There was a complimentary champagne reception one night, and complimentary tea and scones each tea-time. There was also a complimentary mulled wine evening and a talk about the history of the hotel and things to do. Good location on the Sky Road, from where there are several scenic drives and walks. Short walk to town. We had a lovely room with excellent views of the beautiful grounds. Lots of comfortable sofas and seating in the public areas. If you wish to dine, they have a good restaurant and the puddings are divine.
“A wonderful step back in time”
Brian Hughes and staff were extremely cordial and heloful especially Anne the weekday bartender.
“Would go back in a heartbeat!”
We had an awesome stay. The hotel was awesome, room was wonderful, food was very good, and the staff was amazing.
“Spectacular Castle Hotel!”
Upon arriving at Abbeyglen we were greeted by a very sweet and personable female hotel clerk. When I opened the door to our suite I was pleasantly shocked at the size of the room and bathroom. Everthing was immaculate and the decor was magnificent! There was a beautiful canopy bed, fireplace, several sitting areas even a dining room table and chairs. I felt I had stepped back in time and loved every minute we were there. The bathroom was superb as well. Next morning we went to their restaurant and the wait staff was very cordial and friendly. The food served was a typical delicious Irish breakfast. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our short stay. I would definitely return to Abbeyglen.
“great atmosphere”
excellent service and warm irish welcome live music in the bar after dinner was good fun and lots more music on your doorstep in clifden town only a minutes walk away very good food in hotel restaurant and competitively priced we ate there both nights the steaks were excellent only drawback was plumbing in bathroom a bit dodgy couldnt seem to get a consistent temperature in shower!
“It was fun staying in a castle, very homey atmosphere”
We enjoyed the hotel very much. They like having Americans stay there and it was also fun getting to know people from other countries. It was a little tricky getting there as there was some road construction but worth the drive. Cliftden is a very enjoyeable village and the Kylemore Abbey which is near the castle is well worth a visit.
“What a lovely place!”
The staff was friendly, helpful and available. Our turret room was far better - larger and well appointed - than we expected. The food at both breakfast and dinner was exceptional. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Clifden. It was such great fun to mingle with the many regional residents who frequent the hotel.
“I would love to go back and stay a month or more.”
I was made Queen for the evening and thrilled by it. Everyone made us feel so very welcome and anticipated our every need. The rooms were not only beautiful but comfortable. The service was A+ and we were able to have dinner even though we had not register for it ahead of time. Staff were friendly and also took our picture for us. Speaking of service wow ! and the food was excellent too. I would really love to go back an stay again.
