Very pretty hotel and great location!

Everything about this hotel was very nice. We asked for a room that was in the renovated area of the hotel. I guess it was a newer room...? And I say that as a question because the room itself needed updating...ex . the bathroom was kind of oldish looking regarding the tile in shower, there were several huge cracks in the walls of the room, and the door jam was very loose. It was a quiet room until you or anyone else in the hallway shut their door....it could wake the dead. But the bed was so comfortable and the linens were very nice and the service was wonderful. Our kids had a blast at the pool which was very family friendly. The swim up bar area at times would get a little rowdy....but that is to be expected. There is a sign posted that no one under 21 is allowed in the swim up bar area. Overall the hotel was a great experience and we would definitely stay there again on our next trip to Galveston.

Been there, done that, will not be back.

This is a quant historic hotel. Having said that, the rooms available through Expedia will not garner you a room on the renovated/updated floor that contains modern amenities. The queen bedded room that we stayed in was on the non-renovated 4th floor (the Expedia site states floors 1-4). I believe that the updated floors are the floors that contain the suites and the 6th floor. The 4th floor, including our room, did smell musty as well as moldy. The air-conditioning unit is in the interior wall rather than the exterior wall which makes it more noticeable noise wise. The gym/fitness facility was adequate. There were 3 treadmills, 2 elliptical machines, and a bike, along with free weights. Towels, water, and limited fresh fruit are available. The hotel bar is a luck-of-the draw sort of establishment. The bartender that was on duty the one time we visited the bar had to look up how to make a Manhattan in the “bartending recipe book”. The pool area was nice. Upon check-out the luggage carts were in use, they had a limited supply that is all allocated to the porters for valet traffic. This was an experience, but not one in which we would like to repeat. Historic preservation and modern rejuvenation can cohabitate. Also, refrigerators are only available for an added fee. But, be warned that they enormous nature of the appliance will occupy a large portion of the already cramped room space.
